ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town donated a new defibrillator to the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex sometime this week.

The life-saving piece of equipment was donated through a generous sponsorship by Ernst & Young (EY) in partnership with the Club, marking another meaningful effort to enhance emergency response capacity and safeguard the well-being of the community, a press release from the Club on March 27, 2026, explained.

The donation also marked the second defibrillator contributed by the Rotary Club Sunrie as part of its ongoing commitment to preserving health and saving lives. The initiative also aligns closely with Rotary International’s Area of Focus on Disease Prevention and Treatment, which emphasises improving health infrastructure and promoting community well-being.

The difference between life & death- President Smith-Penn

Present at the handing over ceremony were Club President Faye Smith-Penn, Gretchen Hodge (Past President), Mr Eustace C. Freeman (Director of Recreational Trust), Mrs Debra D. Hodge (Director of Youth Affairs and Sports), Assistant Governor Mrs Rosemarie Flax, Mr Luke Almond (Managing Partner of Ernst Young), Mrs Allison Flax-Archer (Past President and Foundation Director), and Ms Sonya Penn (President Elect and Youth Services Director).

During the handing over, Club President, Smith-Penn, expressed gratitude to Ernst & Young for their continued partnership and unwavering support of community initiatives.

“Rotary is built on the spirit of service and collaboration…This defibrillator is a tangible example of what we can achieve when organisations unite to protect and uplift our communities.”

Serving as a hub for sporting activities, cultural events, and social gatherings, having a defibrillator on site at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex enhances safety for all who use the facility, ensuring that immediate response is available in the event of a cardiac emergency, the release added.

The Club explained that defibrillators are vital in improving survival rates during cardiac arrest by delivering timely electrical shocks to restore normal heart rhythm. Their accessibility in public spaces can make the difference between life and death.
