ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The BVI Post is reinstalling letter boxes around the Territory to allow its customers to resume collecting mail at their own convenience.

The facilities were destroyed by hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017.

Letter boxes at Republic Bank formally listed as Scotia Bank, First Bank and Sea Cows Bay have been completed and were made accessible from Friday, June 24, 2022.

BVI Post, in a press release,  said the letter boxes at Cane Garden Bay Post Office will be completed in short order.

The Acting Postmaster General, Mrs Iris Romney said the project is continuing with the installation of the remaining letter boxes throughout Tortola, Anegada and Jost van Dyke, adding that a phased approach is being applied to install the new letter boxes.

BVI Post said it is diligently working in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, to have all the post box sites functional as soon as possible. The key strategy is to target the areas that do not require much extensive remedial works.

Mrs Romney apologised for the length of time the project has taken and for the inconvenience which this may have caused. She went on to mention that with the reintroduction of the letter boxes, the public will no longer have to visit the General Post Office to collect their mail but can do that at their own convenience.

Letter box holders are asked to visit the Road Town Post Office to return the old letter box keys and collect their new keys for those sections that have been completed. For any questions or concerns, letter box holders are kindly asked to contact the BVI POST at 1(284) 468-5160 Mondays to Fridays 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

My box was located at the old post office building on Main Street. My question is whether those boxes would be replaced in that area or relocated elsewhere

since Irma. Seems like an awful long time to replace simple outdoor letter boxes. The common government excuse of 'sorry for any inconvenience caused' is woefully inadequate. How about an apology and a complete explanation of the nearly 5 year delay.

We are all acquainted, that Mrs. Romney just bestowed her role as acting Postmistress, this year so, cast your blame on the obscuring Ex-Postmistress.

She has been acting since June 2021, check your facts not this year sweetheart and she just picking up where the old one left off. She was not instrumental in the purchasing of the boxes, she simply sit and procurement working getting them installed.

The old postmaster pushed to acquire funding to replace these boxes since 2018 and got that in 2020. She purchased them and got them on island before her departure. They moved her before the got them installed so Ms. Romney just picked up whre she left off. The ministry is doing the work of installing and the specifics.

Don't recall reading this VINO headline when the post master/mistress were changed recently. Maybe it was not important news when various politicians were fruitlessly arguing about the payment of legal fees for failed applications to the court about CoI lawyer qualifications.

It wasn't important to the growth or movement of the territory. Should it be national news everytime a head is moved? Once the department or organization doesn't stop operating, it's not important enough to be national news.
