‘Let us only share BVI Love’- Hon Rymer

The Virgin Islands, as a measure to prevent community spread of COVID-19, is currently on 24-hour lockdown officially until April 16, 2020.
While most have been adhering to the strict curfew in place, there have been reports of persons violating the order and also reports of domestic abuse and violence.
“I pray that we continue in an attitude that speaks highly of our resolve as Virgin Islanders. As our Premier reminds us all the time, and I wish to echo his words, ‘Let us only share BVI Love,’” Hon Rymer said in an Easter message on social media today, April 10, 2020.
He further encouraged persons while at home to pray more, talk more, resolve more and love more.
“While at home let’s continue to get to know each other, turning our houses into homes where there is peace and positive relationships.”
He also encouraged residents to check up on the vulnerable, the elderly and neighbours via phone calls to offer a word of encouragement.
Desist from backyard burning
Meanwhile, Chief Fire Officer Mr Zebalon A. McLean had said Fire and Rescue Department officers have been busy responding to reports of backyard burning.
Hon Rymer used the opportunity to call on persons to desist from this practice by being considerate of persons with respiratory issues.
“So people of the Virgin Islands, I am calling on you to please refrain from backyard burning due to the health impact on the people in the community.
“Let us get each other through this together, mentally, physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.”
Water usage & distribution
The Minister also acknowledged there has been an increase in water usage by residents and applauded the efforts of the Water and Sewerage Department “for remedying and remedying the interruptions that occur to the water distribution network from time to time.”
In an effort to promote healthy practices, Government has suspended water charges to customers of the Water and Sewerage Department for 30 days in the first instance and has been trucking water to persons in areas experiencing water disruption.
“We have been and continue to do what we can in our mission to ensure a continues supply of potable water to the residents,” Hon Rymer said,
DMV
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) also falls under the responsibility of the Minister.
He said information from the DMV will be forthcoming on the procedure and schedule for licensing renewals and motorists that require licensing and registration.
Hon Rymer added that prior to the complete lockdown appointments were being encouraged for the purpose of social distancing and DMV would be encouraging persons to continue to make appointments.
