ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Businessman Lesmore Smith, who unsuccessfully contested for a seat at the 2019 General Election in the Virgin Islands, has made it known already that he will be vying for a seat at the 2023 elections.

Smith had run for office in 2019 under the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM), a party formed by members who had broken away from the National Democratic Party (NDP).

"I am thanking God...to continue to trust him, despite the challenges, despite the obsticles, despite I didn't win the last election, despite the next election I am going to win.

"I am telling you by faith, and I told brother Ronnie [Skelton] last election they were going to only have nine delegates."

"So this time around, Blue, God loves you."

Smith was at the time speaking at a ceremony dedicating and officially opening his new business building 'Victoria's House of Commerce' at Long Bush on November 26, 2021.

Thie event was also attended by Mr Ronnie W. Skelton, along with PVIM Representative in the House of Assembly Honourable Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) and Opposition Leader Honourable Marlon A. Penn (R8).

Nah - anything will do got us in this mess. Need to vote for the people, not the parties. We want more independent candidates. The Party stuff is killing the BVI.

I am all for independent candidates, but the party system may be better this go around because we might just end up with the motley crew who cannot decide who will be their leader. I truly believe this go around we should choose the party with an able leader as we should have done last time. In my humble opinion, which I strongly believe today, Honourable Skelton and his team would have taken us firmly forward. Sometimes you have to forget about the three letters naming the party and choose true leadership as per experience. This time people chose their leader hoping everything would be alright because NDP needed to go, but from the fire pan into the fire we went. This is our country, and we have to be more responsible when choosing representatives to lead us forward responsibly and ably.

Help me to understand what's happening here, the guy was asked by the speaker if he is considering running again and you guys published it causing him to lose his contact and halting his pay for works already done? Is this not the same reason we fire the NDP for fare of victimization?

The problem is we are fed up with all the parties being full of lodge brothers. Maybe if there were fewer funny handshakes between all of you brothers there would be more Government left to spend.
Please can we make sure that candidates declare all memberships, allegiances, and income sources before they are allowed to run and that the declarations are all public. We want it written and signed so we know who is scratching whose back before we vote.
