Leo Club promotes safe sex
Dressed in maroon vests, members were seen through traffic handing out booklets to motorists.
According to a press release, the Club has been holding its Annual “Condom Drive” for over five years.
“Each year the club partners with the National AIDS Program to disseminate information about safe sex and provide sexual protection to the BVI public. The Club’s goal is to broaden the awareness of BVI residents as to the prevalence of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) within our community and the use of safe sex practices to help minimize the spread of ST,” the release added.
This year the Club spoke with passing motorists in Road Town and others who were stuck in traffic. Several persons praised the Club for its continued efforts and commended them for their bravery in addressing these sensitive issues. The members said that the project was one which they looked forward to every year. They stressed the importance of promoting sexual health, within the community for persons of all ages.
In addition to the Condom Drive, Club members volunteered to assist the National AIDS Program in giving informative talks to students at Secondary Schools within the territory leading up to World AIDS Day.
The Club's involvement in HIV/AIDS awareness is longstanding as they volunteered earlier this year to manage the National AIDS Programme's Booth in the Festival Village one evening.
The general public is encouraged to get involved as much as they can, whether through the Leo Club of Tortola or by contacting the National AIDS Programme.
