Legs leave it late but march into Finals
With no less than 18 lead changes and with both teams gaining 9 points advantages during the game, it took the cool head and hands of Kennedy H. Bass to guide Legs over the finish line in an enthralling encounter worthy of being the Final itself.
With less than 21 seconds to go the Legs were down by 4 points, but sunk a “3” from downtown and then Bass drew a foul, scoring both free throws to hand his team the victory.
Bass finished with 31 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 6 assists, Khalid Gerard scored 18 with 8 rebounds, 8 assists and Kitwana Rymer 17 with 17 rebounds.
The Kings were led by Juan Hatchet’s 22 points, 16 with 13 rebounds from Randy “Chino” George, 16 from Jevone Demming and 12 points with 8 rebounds by Ray D. Victor.
The Best of Three Series between the Legs and Kings went to a deciding third game after the Just Be You Kings had won game 1, 81-72, and lost Game 2 96-92.
The first game, played on Monday, saw an even first half, which finished 38-38, blown open in the 3rd quarter when the Kings opened a 7 point advantage and never looked back. Ray D. Victor notched 29 points, Steve E. Parillon 12 with 7 rebounds and Azim Beazer 11 points with 6 assists. The Legs were led by Dionne Blyden's 21 points and 10 rebounds, 20 points and 10 rebounds from Jason A. Edwin, 12 points from Shamaar George and 11 from Kennedy H. Bass.
Then on Wednesday the Legs began their comeback with the four point series leveling victory. Jason A. Edwin top scored with 28 points and 12 rebounds, Bass notched 22 with 12 rebounds, Gerard 19 and Blyden 14 points with 9 rebounds.
The Kings were headed by Deming’s 15 points, 14 from George (9 rebounds), 14 from Sean Woods and 13 from Hatchett.
All Ah Wee will play the Legs for the 2014 Championship after they knocked East out on Tuesday Night, with a decisive, 74-85, win. All Ah Wee, were led by Nathaniel Malone’s 22 points. Jevon Serrant added 21 points and 10 rebounds as All Ah Wee completed a 2-0 sweep over the East, thanks in large part to a game changing 2nd quarter which saw the victors establish a 10 point lead.
David Lettsome scored 29 points for East and Radley Stevens 13.
In Game one back on Sunday Night All Ah Wee had won convincingly, 90-74, with Franklyn Penn Junior scoring 18 points, Serrant 17 with 12 rebounds, Travis Isaac 11 points with 5 rebounds and Jamal Serrant 11 points.
East were led by Killven Samuel who scored 23 points with 10 rebounds and Lettsome who scored 19 points with 8 rebounds. They also got useful contributions from Eustace Freeman and Stevens who both scored 11 points.
In the Junior Division Fearless saw off the challenge of Mad Mix in straight games for a 2-0 sweep and now will face And One for the Championship in a series that’s starts on Friday Night at 6.45pm.
Fearless put away game one, 69-65, with a 4th quarter onslaught that turned a four point deficit into a four point win. Jomoiri Dagou scored 17 points, Penn Junior 14 with 10 rebounds, Romain Minott Junior 13 and Mikey Joseph 11 with 7 blocks.
Mad Mix were led by Glenal Layne’s 13 points and 9 rebounds as well as 12 points from both Diondre Rymer and Jasin Rymer Junior.
In Game 2, which took place on Tuesday Night, Fearless simply blew Mad Mix away racing into a 14 point half time lead and running out 77-54 victors.
Penn Junior finished with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 8 steals, Dagou 19 points with 10 rebounds and Minott Junior 14 points 9 rebounds.
Mad Mix were led by Rymer Juniors 13 points and also got 10 points with 15 rebounds from Shaundry Williams and 10 points from Neville Smith Junior.
