ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Legislators will return to the House of Assembly (HoA) Chamber in Road Town on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, following a prorogation that took effect on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. During this period, all legislative business was suspended.

Governor Daniel Pruce, acting on the advice of Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), has since appointed the time and place for the First Sitting of the Third Session of the Fifth House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands in accordance with Section 83(1) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007 (U.K.S.I. 2007 NO. 1678).

First sitting in January 

According to the latest publication in the Official Gazette, the first sitting of this session will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM. 

All members of the House of Assembly and His Majesty’s "loving subjects" are hereby informed and expected to take due notice and govern themselves accordingly.

When the first HoA sitting for the year begins, the Opposition will be one member less since Hon Stacy R. Mather (AL) has crossed the aisle to join the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) government. The Opposition has now been reduced to 4 members.

Meanwhile, the sitting on January 13, 2026, will also see the delivery of the Speech from the Throne by Governor Daniel Pruce.

The Speech from the Throne is a speech prepared by the Government of the day, setting out its legislative agenda.
