Legal representation a challenge for two prisoners
Both men, who are on remand, appeared this morning, May 7, 2012 before Justice Albert Redhead.
According to Principal Crown Counsel Tiffany Scatliffe, Allen was initially represented by Stephen Daniels in the Magistrate’s Court and is now unrepresented.
Lettsome is facing the same dilemma since Mary Lou Creque is no longer his Attorney. Furthermore, no Legal Aid representative was in attendance this morning to offer any assistance. In light of this, Justice Redhead has given the duo until May 30, 2012 to sort out their legal issues.
Allen, who is already serving time for sexual related offenses, is expected to stand trial for the death of a US tourist on February 23, 2010 when the bus he was driving overturned on Windy Hill.
On the other hand, Lettsome is facing an attempted murder charge. It is alleged that on November 18, 2011 in the Crabbe Lot area he shot 27-year-old Johnathan Colaire in his abdomen.
