BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI– Talk show host Claude O. Skelton-Cline has called for a focus on leadership and microeconomic matters in the Virgin Islands (VI), while declaring that the VI has just four options for leadership in the 2023 elections season.

“Leadership matters, everything rises and falls on leadership in any area of your life, in any section of a county, be it corporate or professional, or private, any institution, everything rises and falls on leadership,” he added.

Skelton-Cline made the comments on the March 24, 2023, edition of his Honesty Speaking talk show on ZBVI 780 AM.

The talk show host added that the leadership choices in the 2023 elections are in the persons of Hons Dr Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), Julian Fraser RA (R3), Marlon A. Penn (R8), along with former legislator Ronnie W. Skelton.

“That’s the first and the priority decision that you’re going to have to make, who is best in this moment to get this country to mobilise the place, people, fiscal and physical structure that is currently submerged between the water, to float this boat of the Virgin Islands back on the water.”

Elected team also matters - Sketlon-Cline

Mr Skelton-Cline also said a support team surrounding the leader also matters.

He also called on leaders to focus on microeconomic matters relating to the cost of living, with direct impacts for the good of the local people.

He referred to opportunities as “verifiable, tangible, low-hanging fruits” that are bread and butter issues and relatable to the everyday man.

Skelton-Cline added reiterated that leadership and microeconomic issues should therefore be the focus of local politics in the 2023 elections in the Virgin Islands.

I wonder if he realizes that leadership in the church also matters and leadership as head of a business, organization, company OR ministry also matters. Sometimes I really have to SMH!!!

The Virgin Islands (VI) [British] is in crisis and is in an existential battle to chart a new course and get back on track, having gotten off course. A general election is schedule for April 24, 2023; this election is the most consequential in generations. Mr. Skelton-Cline suggests that the election should be about leadership and microeconomics. I concur with the general notion but with a little tweaking. Indeed, the territory needs a strong, experienced, knowledgeable , leader with a steady hand to lead the territory out of crisis. However, the leader cannot do it alone and needs a strong, capable, and supportive team. The election campaign has too much “ I can/will fix this or that.” It has to be about teamwork or the BVI will be stuck on top dead center. My approach to things will be 1)people( people must come first), 2) place (country), 3)process, etc. The focus of the commentary was on microeconomics but the focus must also be on macroeconomics. The focus must be on the overall economy (the big picture), not just single economic sectors (little picture). We need to focus on healthcare, education, physical infrastructure ( roads, electricity, water, wastewater, stormwater, ports, energy, telecommunications, social infrastructure, environmental protection and preservation), heritage, history and culture; sports, entertainment and art; economic deepening and strengthening and diversifying, etc. There is a major battle ahead and an effective battle plan is needed for victory.

For a minute I was think WTF you were giving cover and concealment to CSC. But in fully reading the comment, my bad. You added to and suggested the need to focus on macroeconomics and putting people first, giving the crisis state that the BVI is in. CSC owes the taxpayers some deliverables on the unfulfilled contract. Where are the considerations?

the time have come for our people to stop fussing and fighting against each other

why cant these political parties come together as one and discuss the way forward for the residents and citizens of the territory

why do black people have to pull down their fellow black sisters & black brothers just to make themselves look good

unity is strengthen and should be used for the benefit of the development of the country(our do we need the United Kingdom to point their fingers at our people telling us what we aught not to do or what they say we have to do)

listening to political conversations in 2023 is mind blowing….they need to graduate from gutter politics

@Trying. Ronnie is a man of integrity. He would not associate CSC with his party much less the Government. And fyi, he already on the payroll at the family business where he has to execute his duties proficiently. And if you are in doubt, always remember that the COI changed the way things were done before in the BVI. One would only have to be insane to try to do otherwise at this critical point and time in the country.

In 1979 the UK was in a complete mess, more or less bankrupt, they had to borrow from the IMF to stay afloat. Bodies in the streets because ambulance drivers and gravediggers were on strike. Incompetent paper shufflers in charge. The sick man of Europe it wall called.
Ten years later it was the faster growing economy in the West, they were booming, most of the social problems were resolved, home ownership was expanding rapidly.
What happened ? In 1979 a woman took over, the first female Prime minister in UK history. Margaret Thatcher.

We dont have Margaret thatcher but we do have a strong, purposeful, experienced woman called Lorna Smith.
She is exactly who we need.
