Leaders willing to ‘fix’ deficiencies in the system needed- Premier Wheatley
Honourable Wheatley was speaking on Tola Radio VI on Monday, September 23, 2024, when he addressed the Public Service Management Bill 2024 recently passed in the House of Assembly with amendments.
“Politicians themselves in a fight for power won’t educate the people about the real problems. So, it’s more advantageous for me [or someone] who is in the opposition to be able to say well the problem we have is really the people we have in power now, if you remove them, you solve the problem,” he said.
Premier Wheatley continued that this does not work but keeps the Territory stuck in a back-and-forth and the problems persist.
Leaders willing to ‘fix deficiencies’ needed- Premier Wheatley
For the VI to truly move forward with these changes, the Premier said he believes leaders who recognise the “flaws and deficiencies” in the system and are willing to fix them are needed.
He added that leaders must be compassionate and hear the cries of the people, have love for them and want to help them.
Another quality of a good leader, the Premier said, is skills. “They could read, they could write, they could articulate themselves, they relate to anybody in society… Those are the types of skills you need; you need to be able to go to the House of Assembly and have the ability to make good laws,” Premier Wheatley explained.

Question: Given the state of the Territory, what evidence is there that Mr. Wheatley and other so called BVI leaders hear the cries of the people?
The Premier mentioned leadership but not management. Perhaps it was implied. Well, “leadership and management are two halves of the same coin. You cannot be a good manager without being a successful leader and vice versa(Vince Meconi).” A good leader has vision for his/her organization, sets the tone, and lead by example, demonstrates the right style( positive attitude, energetic, mentally tough, reliable, informal, not petty), etc.
Furthermore, is more about behavior than skill. Words in action speaks far greater than the words spoke or words in print. What is spoken or written on a paper is not as important as how one behave every day. Followers, the people one looks back see, will see and take cues from one’s day-to-day behavior. Politics is about self interest, not public interest, regrettably. It is rare for politicians to public interest before self-interest. Nevertheless, it is human to act in one’s self-interest. Can our local leaders/politicians buck the trend of putting self-interest ahead of public interest? Is local leadership an oxymoron?

Honestly, Hon. Premier, Dr. Natalio Sujande Wheatley, you are a good show-talker, but not honestly a good political Leader for the people of the BVI. Good leadership leads by example.
Moreover, a good leader submit self to higher authorities, the people of the BVI and the UK, when they have proven that they are right in their recommended advice.
You are stubborn-head self-righteous leader,
who not good for us.
A good leader is first a good follow of GOD, our Creator, WHO IS GOOD, and those that are following in the WAY OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
