Lavida Cottoy named village Honoree for 2026 Emancipation Festival
The announcement was made during the official launch of the festival on Friday, May 22, at the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park.
The Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee revealed the official honourees and creative selections for the 2026 festival celebrations. The 72nd Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival will take place from July 25 to August 11, 2026, with main concert nights featuring major international and regional artists. Over 35 local artists and bands will also be part of the broader schedule.
Headline artists
The committee has confirmed the following headliners for the paid performance nights:
- July 29: 450 & R. City
- July 31: Sizzla & Shaneil Muir
- August 1: Problem Child & Patrice Roberts
- August 4: Beres Hammond, Nadia Batson & Adam O (with Blind Earz)
- August 7: Popcaan
Festival theme announced
The festival theme winner, Shavia Potter, was announced for her submission, 'Culture Rising, Hearts Aligned, VI Festival, One of a Kind!' The official slogan, created by Rekeela Turnbull, is: 'Echoes of Heritage, Rhythm in the Mix, Celebrate Virgin Islands Festival 2026'.
The launch event marks the official beginning of activities and preparations for the Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival 2026, one of the territory’s most anticipated cultural celebrations. Roberto 'Tico' Harrigan has been named the Grand Parade Marshal for the event.
The Rise and Shine Tramp, the iconic Emancipation Parade, will now take place on the Saturday after August Monday.
