INDEPENDENCE SQUARE, Basseterre, St. Kitts- Police have launched an investigation into a fatal stabbing that occurred during Last Lap festivities in the vicinity of Independence Square on Friday night, January 2, 2026.

According to a statement from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), officers responded to reports of a stabbing between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Upon arrival, they found 18-year-old Kaden Hanley of Shadwell Estate suffering from a stab wound to the chest.

Mr Hanley was transported to the Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital by officers of the Special Services Unit (SSU). Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at approximately 9:00 p.m.

The area was secured and processed by the Crime Scene Unit, while investigators began gathering evidence surrounding the incident. Police said an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigations into the matter remain ongoing, and authorities have indicated that further information will be released as it becomes available.

The RSCNPF is appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or who have any relevant information to contact the nearest police station. Information can also be shared anonymously via the Crime Stoppers hotline at 707.
