CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI – History-making Virgin Islands (VI) basketball player, D’Moi M. Hodge continues to receive honors in his home country following an electrifying opening season in the National Basketball Association (NBA) Summer League Games.

Hodge made history for the VI when he signed a 2-way contract with Los Angeles Lakers to play in the NBA and was immediately given honors on returning to the VI with not only monetary cheques and VI ambassador status, but also received a basketball court named in his honor.

Now, the people of Cane Garden Bay on Tortola have added more to the list of honors for the territory's top basketball player, by giving him the ‘Keys to the Bay.”

This happened on Thursday evening, August 3, 2023, at the "Bay People" reunion event that saw almost all the families of the communities coming out to the event.

'Keys to the Bay'

As part of the community initiative, the reunion was a night filled with reflections, fashion, storytelling, and more, including the honoring of Hodge as a top sportsman in the VI.

Hodge has presented with a plaque and a 'Key to the BAY' which immediately made him emotional while telling those gathered that he was humbled at the love shown to him in the VI.

On July 23, 2023, Premier Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) announced that the Cane Garden Bay Basketball Court will be renamed the ‘D’Moi Hodge Basketball Court’ in honor of the Cane Garden Bay resident.

As part of the reunion event, Hodge was also surrounded with prayers from those at the event as they released him in God's care ahead of a new season of basketball in the United States.

He made the SouthBay roster, we're not hating just being accurate. We're all hoping he makes the 15 man roster one day but he is in the G league now. And if the NBA LA LAKERS team for any reason can't find 12 active players then he can be called up to play the game for them so they don't forfeit. But they already have 3 non active players on the bench every game so they would have to be unavailable also. I hope you understand.

We love Hodge. He will do greater things in the future than he has ever done before in the past. May God forever Bless and Protect him and the Favor of God always be upon him.
