LAS VEGAS, California, USA - The inaugural NBA in-season tournament has now come to an end after the Los Angeles Lakers and the Indiana Pacers battled it out in Las Vegas for the glory of hosting the first NBA Cup and taking home an extra $500,000.

With the Lakers winning the NBA Cup, they now are set to receive $500,000 each as prize monies. The 3 two-way players on the roster, Colin R. Castleton, D'Moi M. Hodge, and Alex Fudge are also set to benefit from the bonus.

Taxes severely cut Hodge's take home $$

However, the State of California will reportedly reduce the players' bonuses after the state taxes. The players are set to take home only $231,000 of the $500K. This means they’d lose nearly 54% of their bonus money on taxes.

The three players had minimal impact on the Lakers' effort to win the NBA Cup, but per the tournament's rules, each of them will receive a $500,000 bonus for the championship.

Normally, under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the three players each will receive $559,782 for the 2023-24 season. With the bonus, their earnings will total $1,059,782 before taxes.

Behind Anthony Davis' 41 points and 20 rebounds, the Lakers rolled past the Pacers 123-109 to win the inaugural NBA Cup on Saturday night, December 9, 2023.

On average, the three players contributed, in total, 5.4 points to the Los Angeles Lakers per game this season.

Hodge made history for the VI as the first [British] Virgin Islands Basketball player to sign a 2-way contract with Los Angeles Lakers to play in the NBA.

My advice to him is to invest that money wisely. Don't end up broke like some of these ballers. Anything can happen in sports. Pray you grow from strength to strength.

Hope the money doesn't go to his head or the head of his family members. Stay humble, stay focus, keep striving for the stars.

Hodge is good enough to start on a Detroit Team, aNew York Team and a Charlotte team at least be in the top 7. And earned a decent salary of over 7 -8 mil per yr while improving his game and making an impact..

That's good that these fringe players got some cash b/c their careers aren't guaranteed. The tournament doesn't make sense to me but there was definitely more effort in their play than usual.

I don’t think the money will go to his head because mommy and grandma thought him well and kept him grounded. The only family members if he so chooses to help is the ones that have been there for him from the beginning through the good and bad times. Just stay away from the fake hangers.

Congratulations D’Moii! Very happy for you. Invest, spend wisely. Lordamussy man! Tis so much he has to pay in taxes? Look advantage! That is outrageous. Can he use the BVI’s financial services to get tax savings on his money. I’m waiting for those knowledgeable in this area to comment on that last point.
