TOKYO, Japan- The only man to medal at the World Athletics Championships for the Virgin Islands, Kyron A. McMaster, OBE will not repeat that feat this year, as he has ended his participation at the games in Tokyo with a non-advancing time in the 400m Hurdles Heats.

Running in Heat 2 this morning, September 15, 2025, the 2-time Commonwealth Games champion, McMaster, finished in 5th place in a time of 49.89.

The race was won by Bassem Hemeida of Qatar in 48.43.

Alison Dos Santos of Brazil was second in 48.48, while third was Owe Fischer-Breiholz of Germany in a time of 48.81.

The 4th automatic qualifying spot was taken by Matic Ian Gucec of Slovenia in a time of 48.92.

Non-advancing time

McMaster's 49.89 was not enough to gain him a slot in the semi-finals as one of the four fastest non-automatic qualifiers.

The Virgin Islander won a World Athletics Championships silver medal for the VI when the games were held in Budapest, Hungary, in August 2023.

Attention will now be placed on Jaleel N. Croal and Beyonce A. DeFreitas, who get into 200m action on September 17, 2025.
