TOKYO, Japan- The only man to medal at the World Athletics Championships for the Virgin Islands, Kyron A. McMaster, OBE will not repeat that feat this year, as he has ended his participation at the games in Tokyo with a non-advancing time in the 400m Hurdles Heats.

Running in Heat 2 this morning, September 15, 2025, the 2-time Commonwealth Games champion, McMaster, finished in 5th place in a time of 49.89.

The race was won by Bassem Hemeida of Qatar in 48.43.

Alison Dos Santos of Brazil was second in 48.48, while third was Owe Fischer-Breiholz of Germany in a time of 48.81.

The 4th automatic qualifying spot was taken by Matic Ian Gucec of Slovenia in a time of 48.92.

Non-advancing time

McMaster's 49.89 was not enough to gain him a slot in the semi-finals as one of the four fastest non-automatic qualifiers.

The Virgin Islander won a World Athletics Championships silver medal for the VI when the games were held in Budapest, Hungary, in August 2023.

Attention will now be placed on Jaleel N. Croal and Beyonce A. DeFreitas, who get into 200m action on September 17, 2025.

Great “attempt” you say…lol. Someone who won a silver medal at the last world championship didn’t even make it out of the first round this time. Kyron already gave up a long time ago. You people are silly. Dislike my comment all you want.

You are just a poop aren’t you lol. Your head, heart and soul and every fiber of your being is poop. I like your comment. You there sitting behind a screen spewing hate and jealousy for one of BVI’s finest. I like that you have magnified Kyron whist degrading yourself. He is the GOAT and you a little dust termite on your keyboard. Where is my dust buster?

McMaster is ranked #11 in the WORLD. If he is washed up, who will take his place? You?

Exactly what money does the bvi waste on these athletes. It’s not your tax payer money that funds them!!!!! When you know nothing keep your mouth shut!!!!!!. Majority of the money that sponsors these athletes for your lack of education self actually comes from companies like pumps to which these athletes has stipulations in place that has to be met to keep the contract and get paid to earn a living. ANDDDDDDD…….other majority of their funds comes from their family………the bvi gives very minimum to allow them to carry out their duties. ANDDDDD walk in any of their shoes and then call it a waste of time because that is one career path that is actually hard…!!!!!but you won’t know caused your not in it!!!!!!!!!

I bet you can’t run from the bottom of elevator hill to the school in Sea Cows Bay without passing out or on your knees panting for air.

Glad to see Kyron made it out the norm here

Most dudes here either get caught up on the fast life or dead chasing the fast life instead of trying to find legal ways to progress but that's the culture amongst our youths
Party drunk and gang life glad Kyron ain get stuck here to be included

He should be improving not regressing...When these people training they don't have a qualifying time target to hit, Doing this for yrs, Hard for me to understand, the drive, the focus, the motivation the effort. We can't always find excuses and sugar cote these failures...Sometines we have to be real and frank..

At not good and all the other negative Nags. Did you all know that Kyron is coming off injuries and did the best with what he has? Get some maturity abut your infantile comments in an event you seem to know nothing of. Slap, slap you all deserve.

If he was injured and his fitness level wasn’t where it needed to be to compete why go? For a trip? Aren’t you people tired of defending bulls*** and mediocrity????????
