Kleon ‘BigKle’ Penn gets more time on court for Timberwolves
Penn entered the game in the last four minutes, replacing Gorgui Dieng, with the score already at 63-88 and almost made a 2 pointer from four feet at the buzzer.
The Virgin Islander had the misfortune to record a turnover on a bad pass and picked up three personal fouls, despite seeing a 3 point swing to the Wolves whilst on court.
Gorgui Dieng led the Wolves with 12 points.
Courtney Lee scored 18 points for the Grizzlies as they remained unbeaten in pre season.
Tony Allen finished with 13 points, while Marc Gasol and Mike Conley added 12 apiece for Memphis (5-0).
Timberwolves’ Kevin Garnett hit all four shots from the field in the first half, finishing with eight points. Nikola Pekovic did not play, continuing to recover from right Achilles surgery.
Grizzlies Lee was 3 of 4 from 3-point range. Zach Randolph was the only Memphis starter who didn't reach double figures, recording four points.
Minnesota point guard Ricky Rubio saw his first preseason action after missing the first four games recovering from a strained right quadriceps. Rubio played 23 minutes, but did not score.
The Grizzlies sat seven players: Jeff Green, Matt Barnes, Brandan Wright, Beno Udrih and Vince Carter, plus Jarell Martin and Jordan Adams, who are recovering from injuries.
Minnesota face Bucks on Tuesday October 20, 2015 in Madison, Wisconsin.
Penn made his debut for NBA team Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday October 10, 2015 against the Chicago Bulls in front of a packed house of 15,294 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Canada.
He entered the game in the 4th quarter with the Timberwolves already staring a defeat in the pre-season friendly game and had little opportunity to change the result, a 114-105 defeat, but had a solid game at Centre, alongside the likes of Kevin Garnett, Nick Wiggins, Tayshaun Prince and Andrew Wiggins.
With Penn on the court, the Timberwolves saw a plus four point swing, but it was too little too late.
