ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Being such a small country as St. Kitts, a local performer is lucky enough if he or she performs in the sister island of Nevis. Being an entertainer in a country where local music is not heavily promoted by the locals, and there is no one to guide the young artists on what it takes to make it in the music world, the artists existing in that country may never have the opportunity to rise to greatness.

Kittitian artist Vaughn ‘Meeshack’ Mitchum made a decision to move to the Virgin Islands (VI) to continue his music career on another level. A decision he hopes will get him where he needs to be as an entertainer, a Kittitian and soon to be a protégé of the VI.

In an exclusive interview with the Kittitian performer, Meeshack said he moved to the VI because there is a much greater chance of him getting on to an international platform to perform his music. He said the Virgin Islands has much better access to the international arena than his little country, St. Kitts (SK).

“I am a go getter, the VI has a better access to the international arena, and me and my music are determined to make it so that the world can see what Meeshack as an artist has to offer, what a St. Kitts artist has to offer and what the people of the VI can do to help in one’s success.”

Meeshack, whose name derives from the Bible, reminds us of the story where Meeshack was one of three of the Hebrew boys in the book of Daniel who didn’t bow down to Nebuchadnezzar’s preachings and teachings, and was then thrown into a fiery furnace.

He said he will not bow down to mankind for their approval, he will always do what Meeshack wants to do and what will benefit him much in the long run.

The artist, who is currently being produced and managed by Paul Peart of Gadiethz 3P Productions, said with the help of Virgin Islanders and his fans back in St. Kitts, there is no room for failure. “I can see success.”

Being on Tortola for quite some time, he stated that the people living in the Territory are very nice. He said that once his music is of their caliber and it is something they enjoy listening to, that is a sure guarantee of their support.

Through his music, he describes the reactions as an “upliftment to anyone who listens. My music is colour to a world that is painted in different shades of grey.”

He said his niche is producing and performing songs that flow in the genre of Reggae, RnB and POP, but he has dabbled a bit in Soca.

“I am a very versatile artist and there is a versatile crowd out there waiting for good music. I sing about happiness and joy, something for the people to feel comfortable about themselves. I make you feel calm and at ease.”

Meeshack has never released any music in Tortola, but assures us that there is much in store.

He added that all the songs he released in St. Kitts, he promotes here and boasts of some being played on local radio stations in the VI.

In light of his music being played on the radio, he said he is known by some of the people living on Tortola as an artist, but many can’t put a face to the name. He added that his job in the VI is to present Meeshak to the world.

“With this collaboration with Gadiethz, I am certain that it will be a step in helping get to where I’m trying to go. I am going to get there and I’m determined to get there.”

Before coming to the VI, he was involved in many labels in SK, such as Yard Tune Productions with DJ Rinch, Chabo Productions and was a member of Chronical Family, which is a group of Kittitian local acts.

For ideas and guidance he listens to the music of J. Cole, Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls. “I listen to their message and dream of being on their level one day.”

Even though he is in the VI he said he still looks out for his Kittitian fans. He said all the songs that he will be releasing very soon will be available for Kittitians through his Face Book and his friends and family back home.

He said his life is music and his music is life.
