BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Honestly Speaking talk show host Claude O. Skelton-Cline has called out what he called 'kindergarten bickering' in the Virgin Islands House of Assembly (HoA) among legislators, even as the UK-sponsored Commission of Inquiry (CoI) is present in the territory, as disappointing.

Skelton-Cline made the comments on the Thursday, September 16, 2021, edition of his Honestly Speaking radio talk show on ZBVI 780AM.

Bickering in the HoA

"I want to express at this time what I see is my disappointment with some of the bickering that I see taking place in the House of Assembly, and especially at a time like this.

"I know that I am not the only one who see and understand what's getting ready to happen to us as a country resulting from this Commission of Inquiry," the commentator said.

Skeleton-Cline said one of the underlying sentiments coming out of statements from the CoI is that the VI is incapable of handling its own affairs, as such, recommendations may be sent to the UK to address this.

He said the message is that elected leaders present and past cannot be trusted in carrying out the affairs of the country under good governance.

Imposition by UK still possible

"So when I hear some of the kindergarten bickerings in the House of Assembly, amongst the members who we have elected to see about our affairs, it is disconcerting for me and I think it should be for you."

Skelton-Cline reminded that the UK in past CoI's has suspended constitutions in full and part, taken over finance ministries. "These are the recommendations and decisions that can be had," he said.

Urging the VI to be more vigilant and listen to the messages coming out of the CoI, Skelton-Cline called on both the Opposition and Government to come together and unite on the singular point to prevent the UK from taking over the territory and setting back the progress already made.

Coming together and hiding the truth is not the way to convince the UK we are capable of governing our country. The only way forward is to admit our mistakes and learn from them.

@Poor advice, You took the words out of my mouth, Both governments did this to themselves thinking that they will never have to answer to anyone. You can't fight the UK, the UK is going to do what's right for the BVI and if that means taking over for a few years I am all for that.

Just wondering how Mr. CSC has come to the understanding that he has regarding what's getting ready to happen to us [sic] as a country? Is it really from statements the Commissioner has made or is it from the "kindergarten" responses our elected leaders providing?

I do not for the life of me see why UK suddenly have so much interest in this little country that was left to be a bird sanctuary. I also do not understand why when we make mistakes it is portrayed that we are incapable of running our country. No one is above making mistakes not UK for sure.

Surely you meant to say "territory" and not "country". So UK now has a greater interest in THEIR territory.
When we were doing well (progressing) the UK admired our progress and left us up to ourselves , as any good/smart parent would do. However as our position took a spiral downturn they left us up to ourselves for a while to see how we will handle recovery. However, when they recognized that if they did not intercede soonest we would eventually hit the ground hard with numerous fatalities so they jumped in to help us, their territory, as any responsible parent would do.
