Kick-off meeting held for Derelict Vessel Removal Project for SCB Harbour
This initiative aims to restore the Sea Cows Bay Harbour, making it safer for navigation, improving its overall appearance and functionality, and ultimately promoting a cleaner, healthier space for the community.
During the meeting, the RDA met with the joint venture team, Sandwise Ltd and Commercial Dive Services Ltd, to review key components of the project.
“Together, we discussed the disposal plan, the methodology, and outlined what stakeholders and the public can expect throughout each phase of the project cycle.
“This collaborative start sets a strong foundation for a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible removal process — moving us closer to a revitalised Sea Cows Bay Harbour,” the RDA stated on November 28, 2025.
$854,633.43 for Sea Cows Bay Harbour cleanup
The contract signed with Sandwise Ltd and Commercial Dive Services Ltd for the removal of the derelict vessels in the Sea Cows Bay Harbour is valued at $854,633.43.
Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been formalised with the Virgin Islands Shipping & Maritime Authority, designating Isha Hodge as the Site Supervisor (Environmental) for the Derelict Vessels Project.
The Sea Cows Bay Harbour remains littered with derelict and abandoned vessels, eight years after the destructive hurricanes of 2017, Irma and Maria, struck the Virgin Islands.
