Khalil N. Herbert of VI parentage drafted to Chicago Bears in 2021 NFL pick
The Bears selection of Herbert, ranked as the 217th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, has been considered a solid selection for General Manager Ryan Pace.
In an interview on the Chicago Bears Facebook page, yesterday, May 2, 2021, a celebratory Herbert in South Florida said, “I’m just excited, grateful to the Bears organisation for taking a chance on me, I’m just ready to get up there and get to work now,” he said.
“It’s been a long process, a lot of ups and downs, but it’s worth it and I’m ready now," Herbert added.
'Juice' ready for any challenge
He said growing up in high school, he got the nickname Juice as a nickname based on the energy he brought to sports and playing the game.
“I feel like I can do everything with the ball in my hands, catching the ball… inside, outside… I'm feeling like I’m a playmaker with the ball,” he said.
Herbert remarked that he has an incredible amount of pride, regarding playing the game and being able to do the most.
In a message to fans and supporters, he said, “I appreciate you guys, can't wait to get started, can’t wait to get to work… you guys are going to get everything out of me,” he said.

Khalil is the son of Khari D. Herbert, who told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), "We are extremely proud of him, Khalil has worked really hard to get this far, and knowing him the hard work is not going to stop.
"It was a really emotional weekend because of everything that he’s had to work through to put himself in this position. So for the outcome to be him being drafted, it’s him realising his dreams and we are truly happy and grateful.
Khalil was drafted by the Chicago Bears in Round 6.
Meanwhile, his brother Khari D. Herbert Jr, who represents the VI in track and field, ran a 400m season’s best of 47.39 seconds on Saturday, May 1, 2021.
