ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - A Fat Hog's Bay man, 34 year old Kevin Moorehead was remanded to prison late yesterday afternoon June 2, 2014 when he appeared before Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo at the Magistrate's Court of the Virgin Islands.

Moorehead, represented by Attorney at Law Mr Steven R. Daniels, pleaded not guilty to three charges that were brought against him; smuggling of an immigrant in the person of St Lucian Kennyson Daniels, keeping an unlicensed firearm and possession of explosive in the form of 23 rounds of ammunition.

Representing the crown in the matter Senior Crown Counsel Leslie Ann Faulkner told the court that on May 30, 2014 at around 3:25pm police officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) on duty observed in the Fat Hog's Bay area an inflatable dingy approaching. She said the officers recognized Moorehead and another man disembarking the dingy.

At the time Moorehead was carrying a duffle bag while the other man was carrying a back pack. A search warrant was secured by the police officers who proceeded to the Moorehead's home in Fat Hogs Bay at around 04:15am where a search of the home unearthed the illegal man in the person of Kennyson Daniels, a box of ammunition and the firearm.

The prosecutor told the court that when shown the ammunition Moorehead said, "My cousin left that there" and for the firearm that was found in a closet in his bedroom he said, "It was a pellet gun somebody give him to fix."

When arrested and escorted to the Road Town Police Station Faulkner said that Moorehead did not cooperate with police as they attempted to conduct a recorded interview.

On the other hand Kennyson Daniels who the police found no records of as having cleared immigrations told the court that he had left the Virgin Islands in 2006 and was in St Johns, USVI. He said that on the day in question May 30, 2014 Moorehead had transported him back to the VI en route to his homeland St Lucia.

He was charged for illegal entry and pleaded guilty. He was remanded to prison until June 12, 2014 when he is to return to court for sentencing.

Moorehead was denied bail on the grounds that he has had a previous firearm conviction and was on bail for another firearm matter of 2011 that is pending trial. He is set to return to court on June 20, 2014.

Moore and Daniels were charged separately.
