Kejan Thomas accused of stealing church TV; firearm possession
It is alleged that on August 7, 2013, Kejan Thomas was on the premises of the Virtual Complainant when a verbal altercation took place. The VC told the defendant to refrain from his behaviour and leave the premises.
The Magistrate's Court was further told yesterday that shortly after the defendant went outside and returned with a flare gun. He allegedly pointed it to the VC telling him he would shoot him. The VC was in fear since he thought it was a real gun that the defendant allegedly brandished.
The VC’s wife allegedly intervened and took her husband to a bedroom and locked the door, however, Thomas allegedly kickeded down the door and threatened the VC. He is said to have left the premises shortly after but not before allegedly damaging the bonnet and door of a vehicle that was parked outside. The damage to the said vehicle reportedly amounted to $1,197.
The defendant was later arrested and charged and is to return to court for the commencement of trial on May 1, 2015.
Breaking & entering charge
On January 21 2014, Christopher Varlack left his home secured in Belmont Estate and went to work at around 8:00 am. He returned at around 6:45 pm and realised that the kitchen screen had been tampered with. A report was made to the Police who processed the scene.
Acting on information, Police met Thomas at his work place and informed him of the allegations against him. He was invited for an interview at the Road Town Police Station and during the interview he reportedly admitted to the offence, allegedly saying he had gone there looking for something to steal.
He submitted himself to a fingerprint analysis and was thereafter charged for the offence. His trial is to commence on June 23, 2015.
Church break-in
On June 9, 2014, the Virtual Complainant, a member of the New Testament Church of God in West End, Tortola, entered the church around 6:00pm and realised that it had been broken into. She observed that a window to the back of the building was open and went to investigate. When the building was checked, she found that nothing was missing, however, reported the break-in to the Police.
The Police later met and informed Thomas that they were investigating a break-in at the church and that they believed he could help with the investigation. It was during the Police interview that he allegedly admitted to breaking into the church by entering through a back window. The court heard that Thomas said he went there to look for money but upon finding none he left the building.
He is to return on June 23, 2015 for trial.
Church television gone!
Further, the court heard that on January 12, 2014, Virtual Complainant Troy David, a Deacon of the New Testament Church of God in West End, Tortola secured the church after service and went home. On the following day he went to the church to clean. When he entered he noticed that the church’s 55 inch television was missing. He is said to have carried out a check but was unable to locate the television.
According to the prosecution, David noticed that a window of the building was destroyed and what appeared to be blood was on the floor, on the window and on the window blinds. He reported the matter to the Police who responded. On February 17, 2014 the Police executed a search warrant on the home of Thomas and he was later taken to the Road Town Police Station.
During the Police interview, Thomas allegedly admitted to breaking into the church and stealing the television, said to be valued at $1,500.
His trial in this matter begins on July 1, 2015.
