Kaelyaah Liburd qualifies for World Indoor Championships 2026

CLEMSON, South Carolina, USA- The Virgin Islands’ 400m star and Florida State University (FSU) athlete, Kaelyaah Liburd, has qualified for the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2026, which will take place from March 20 to 22, 2026, in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland.

Liburd achieved the feat when she blazed the homestretch at the Orange and Purple Invitational at Clemson University in South Carolina with a 51.68s finish for second place on Friday, January 23, 2026.

‘The big breakthrough’

“This is a 'big run and worth celebrating,” President of the BVI Athletics Association (BVIAA) Steve Augustine stated.

FSU Coach Matt Kane also commented: “She has really had a great fall, so I wasn’t surprised. But [I'm] happy for her to get the big breakthrough.”

Liburd is the Virgin Islands National Record Holder in the Women’s 400 metres. She broke her own record when she clocked 51.31 at the NCAA First Round Meet on May 31, 2025.
