JvD holds remnants of NDP neglect & hurricanes Irma & Maria
As one drives around the island of JvD, two things come to mind: the eight years (2011-2019) of blatant neglect by the former National Democratic Party (NDP) Administration and the remnants of Hurricanes Irma and Maria of 2017.
Furthermore, as one leaves Great Harbour where the ferry docks they would be surprised to witness the dilapidated conditions of the first and main port of entry on JvD, which reflects the neglect by the NDP following the two killer hurricanes- Irma and Maria.
Not even the graveyard NDP fixed!
Drive a little further and you will note how the public grave yards have not been restored by the former Government, with walls still down, some graves with broken blocks, while other areas of the graveyard look like hurricanes Irma and Maria had visited the island in January 2019 and not September 2017.
The religious community also took a hit as the aged JvD Methodist church building is still without a roof and other parts of the small building is still in need of restoration after almost two years.
No attention by NDP to public buildings
Drive further still to Gardens Bay on the East side of the island and it’s clear that the NDP had not only neglected public facilities on Tortola, but also on the sister islands, as the Water and Sewerage Sub-Station has been left in disrepair following the damages from the hurricanes.
Despite the many examples of neglect and outright abandonment by the NDP, many residents are hopeful that the Fahie-Adminstraction, elected on February 25, 2019, less than four short months ago, will pay attention to JvD and will work on the recovery of that island.
Foxy speaks, not sings
One famous son of JvD, Mr Philiciano O. Callwood MBE aka ‘Foxy’, while speaking to our news center on Monday June 10, 2019, noted that “change is good and the people have spoken and elected VIP so I know that they are happy with their selection.”
