July 1, HoA Special Sitting in honour of late Parsons



Mrs Parsons was a respected member of the former Legislative Council. Her dedication to the territory remained unwavering until her passing, as she continued to actively engage in matters concerning the House of Assembly.
Notably, she served as a vital sub-committee member advising on the upcoming 75th Anniversary of the Restoration of Parliament in the Virgin Islands.
During the Fifth Sitting of the Second Session of the Fifth House of Assembly on June 24, 2025, Hon Corine N. George-Massicote, Speaker of the House of Assembly, expressed her heartfelt condolences on behalf of the members and staff of the House regarding Mrs Parsons' passing.
“It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow that I honour the memory of a remarkable daughter of our soil—a cultural icon and pioneering stateswoman. Mrs Parsons' legacy will forever be cherished as part of the history of the Virgin Islands. She was a true trailblazer, breaking barriers as the first woman appointed as a government minister, a former Deputy Chief Minister, and a Deputy Speaker of the then Legislative Council,” she stated.
She added, "Mrs Parsons' unwavering dedication to our territory went beyond politics. Her voice echoed with wisdom, courage, and a passionate commitment to the Virgin Islands. Affectionately known as 'Mrs. P,' she exemplified pride in her culture and heritage, often reminding us of the vital importance of preserving our traditions, sharing our stories, and nurturing the minds of future generations. Her tireless work in education, health, and culture paved the way for many cherished institutions and programs that remain cornerstones of our community today.”
'Advocate for equity & fairness'
The Speaker further noted that Mrs Parsons was not just a leader; she was a staunch advocate for equity and fairness, particularly for women and youth. Her example proved that leadership knows no gender. Her influence in the Legislative Council helped foster a more inclusive and vibrant legislative environment.
Hon George-Massicote said, “As we mourn her loss today, we also take a moment to celebrate her remarkable life—one filled with dignity, purpose, and enduring commitment to public service. We are ever grateful for her fearless spirit and the lasting impact she has made on the political and cultural landscape of the Virgin Islands."
In closing, the Speaker extended her condolences: "To her family, loved ones, and the entire Virgin Islands community, our hearts and prayers are with you. May we honour her memory by continuing the essential work she passionately believed in." The House of Assembly then observed a moment of silence to pay respect to the late Mrs. Eileene Lucia Parsons, OBE.
The Honourable Speaker further announced that the Fifth Sitting of the Second Session of the Fifth House of Assembly would be adjourned and that a special sitting for the late Mrs Eileene Lucia Parsons, OBE, will be held on July 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
Following this, a new sitting is scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2025, and all items on the order paper will be moved to that sitting.
