ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Amidst reports of him having intentions to run for office at the next General Elections, talk show host turned public activist, Mr Julio Sam Henry has stated emphatically that he has no political agenda and only wishes to see good come to the people of the Virgin Islands.

Mr Henry made the statement at a press briefing among several of his colleagues in the taxi industry on October 24, 2013.

“I prefer to be out here and be an advocate for the people’s rights. You are not going to see me on the ballot next year, you can quote me on that,” he firmly told media operatives.

Mr Henry is popularly known for speaking candidly on social and political issues affecting the VI and, for a greater part, has been throwing hard balls at the National Democratic Party (NDP) government for their style of governance. For this reason especially, fingers have been pointing in his direction speculating that he has only been making himself relevant in the media because he has intentions of contesting the next General Elections.

“Why would I want to be in the ring fighting back and forth between who can’t get and listening to other representatives saying the $100,000 they suppose to get to help their district the Premier comes and cut it in half. I don’t want to have to deal with that,” he said.

Most recently, Mr Henry has been very loud on the issues surrounding the BVI Ports Authority and Carnival Cruise Line’s announcement that it had cancelled port calls to the VI for the latter half of 2014 and beyond.

He has also been strongly calling for the removal of Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority, Mr Claude Skelton-Cline.

Someone has to always stand up for others and see the wrong that is done so some done get away with endangering others. sir nothing is wrong in helping out or running for elections and making a difference in our lives and that of our beautiful islands. Some may come on and blog like me but are afraid to come out in the public and say what they want to.

Again, you win elections by registering voters, getting them to the polls and having a credible game plan to govern

First two for sure (addendum: by any means necessary).

Recent history has proven that your third criteria is not necessary, perhaps optional at best

That line of 'reasoning' will doom your party to opposition status for a long time.

The reality is that he has no qualifications whatsoever. I like the work he does, but I can't see him in public office without "qualifications".

If indeed he wants to run for elected office, now is the time to lay the foundation, showcasing his abilities, knowledge, skills, style, potential. He cannot show up just of election day and say vote for me. By that time it is too late; you must have made the case much earlier. If he wants to run and meets the minimum qualifications, why not. Let the voters decide.
