Julio S. Henry denies having intentions to run for office
Mr Henry made the statement at a press briefing among several of his colleagues in the taxi industry on October 24, 2013.
“I prefer to be out here and be an advocate for the people’s rights. You are not going to see me on the ballot next year, you can quote me on that,” he firmly told media operatives.
Mr Henry is popularly known for speaking candidly on social and political issues affecting the VI and, for a greater part, has been throwing hard balls at the National Democratic Party (NDP) government for their style of governance. For this reason especially, fingers have been pointing in his direction speculating that he has only been making himself relevant in the media because he has intentions of contesting the next General Elections.
“Why would I want to be in the ring fighting back and forth between who can’t get and listening to other representatives saying the $100,000 they suppose to get to help their district the Premier comes and cut it in half. I don’t want to have to deal with that,” he said.
Most recently, Mr Henry has been very loud on the issues surrounding the BVI Ports Authority and Carnival Cruise Line’s announcement that it had cancelled port calls to the VI for the latter half of 2014 and beyond.
He has also been strongly calling for the removal of Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority, Mr Claude Skelton-Cline.
