Judith Vanterpool named new VP of HLSCC

PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI- Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of the One Mart Supermarket, Chief Executive Officer of the BizComEd Consultant Inc., and workforce specialist Mrs Judith Vanterpool has been named Vice President of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC).

According to our newsroom’s senior National Democratic Party (NDP) sources close to both the College Board and the Ministry of Education, Mrs Vanterpool, an indigenous Virgin Islander, has replaced former Vice President Dr Bryan Penn.

Mrs Vanterpool, the wife of Communications and Works Minister Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4), last served as the Dean of Workforce Training at the institution.

No Phd yet!

According to a Board Member of the college, Mrs Vanterpool is currently working on her Phd, and it is believed that she might be tipped to head the college. Reports are that she is also a close ally of the controversial Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn (AL), who has the portfolio of the college.

While the college has been tight-lipped publicly about the appointment, it was communicated to faculty at a meeting this week and via an Email obtained by our newsroom.

Politics rule the college

A year ago, due to political victimisation, Dr Karl Dawson was ousted from his post as President and replaced by Board Member and Consultant in her late 70s, Dr Janet B. Smith. It is unclear when a new President will be appointed.

The college has been rocked within the past 4 years by allegations of locals being forced out, censorship, decisions being made based on politics and not merits, mold, financial hardship and the late payment to staff.

      The college went to the dogs because many people wanted to do what they want and they were allowed to and got away with it. No accountability, nuff disrespect. and poor workmanship. Unless this type of attitude is changed the ship will keep sinking. Equally for all, not just your clique.

    They resign because they didn't want to work .The president knows exactly what she is doing. Most people want the salary but don't do anything for it and the president before had his had tied by politics so he couldn't do anything because they had someone to run to.This president is doing the people a favour by being there .it's a job she accept just to help out the situation.some workers at HLSCC only goes there to show there face they does nothing and it's shame the the president before couldn't do anything.     That President at HLSCC is a brilliant old lady can do much more work that 99% of the staff at that institution.that lady is a work horse and many of the staff want to sit in there old ways doings as they please .no private institution would hire any for any long period.most of those who resign resign from other places before some more than once .they went to HLSCC doing nothing for most of the time so now they expected to do the work they are getting paid to do they crying .come on people do your work for your pay.

    It have people staff at HLSCC presently in certain position that cannot function in there position, they do not know there head from there foot.mrs vanterpool is a very knowledgeable person and can handle her new position very well.we people should asked about the. People who was acting before her ,my Lord you wouldn't like to know it was a disaster. There are a few good workers at that institution and the two top ladies whether old or young can do more than what all the others can do and that's a fact.with good support staff the college can make strides again.and all who want to sue let them go right ahead see who would hire them after the suing. Bunch of lazy people shuffling papers all day.

    This is for leaving we wish you the best in what ever you do but you cannot function in any private institution unless you change your attitude. You did nothing for HLSCC over the yrs .You come to work at any hour you feel like coming and leave when ever you feel like leaving,does nothing for the few hours you are there.all you do is trying to alliance with others like yourself trying to pull down the person or persons who trying to uplift the college. There are very good teachers at HLSCC so maybe some of you need to go back to teaching we might just get better results.one problem that teachers face is the air conditioning units not working and they would soon be fixed.none of us are perfect so does any institutions.

    The President can't do it without support staff and the problem is she thinks she can do it with only one other person. The atmosphere at the college is not conducive to productivity; thus, the institution will continue to decline. Yes people are suing because the College are violating their rights and I hope they win! As far as jobs, this little rock is not the only place people can work; it is however, a good place (if your qualified) to make and save good money while your skills are under-utilized because your supervisor is insecure and feel threatened by your accomplishments!!

    I sincerely congratulate u on that new position. I have interacted with u and can testify that u can and will command the well deserved respect . The institution will certainly be on a more solid foundation for educating the people of the BVI particularly the young ones. U are blessed. A hard working woman

    The president cannot do it all alone ,we all know that and that's the reason why she pick a good vice president Mrs vanterpool instead of you.Having a PhD doesn't mean you can do one crap.when some people think to highly of themselves think they are you intelligent and never prove it is a whole other thing.Prove yourself in what ever you do and maybe others would see.the present president at HLSCC is not intimidated by anyone because she is only trying to help out a situation that really gone bad .so please give her the support and get things moving in the right direction and not the direction that you alone think is right.The old witch as you say have more experience and knowledge than most of us and with a forward thinking mind like Mrs vanterpool the college can once again keep moving forward especially with the few good support staff that is there.you people want to do what you like for as long as you like.It cannot work that way forever an end had to come one day .It just happen that the day is now.lol

    Tell us your accomplishment because we cannot see it.you fuss about everything even when there were other president.you complain to everyone who would listen and you not stopping. Take a look at yourself and see where you are going wrong.everything bothers you .You don't like nobody so who in there right mind is going to put you to be over other people.make the changes first so others can see.I only wish that that the old lady can spend a three or four yrs at HLSCC. It would become conducive and only then you would see productivity again.it seems to me that it is only at HLSCC that you can do as you want.you can come and go as you please.The minister needs to put in place the same system that most of these trust companies have to monitor productivity.     How you feel that you come to work whatever time of the morning well dress and does nothing walk from office to office trying to find people like yourself who don't want to do anything. You leave for lunch everyday before 12 and by 3 pm you are gone .you did nothing for the day .how do you feel??     firstly, congrats to Mrs. Vanterpool. Secondly, how has the college been operating all these years if the staff was not working? As a recent graduate, I can attest to hard working individuals at the college and they were working hard even before the current president was appointed. Clearly, the general communityu bot to understand that faculty members do work ao typical 8:30-4:30 schedule. Moreover it's a shame that perception, false ones at that, are treated as facts. I am pleased with the services i recieved at hlscc; especially from Mrs. Hodge and Ms. Hamm in the Student Success Centre.

    in regards to WHT statement, I'm not sure why people are leaving but do believe that Dr. O'neal's departure from the college will be felt and if her rights were violated, I too hope she sues and wins. Supervisors bullying and abusing staff is a rampant problem in the bvi and it needs to be adressed.

Operating as a depository for unfinished high schoolers and adult daycare with a salary, If you had any inkling of what a college is supposed to be,you would hang your head low. The college was a depository for local s of little ambition ,lack of work ethics,immaturity and intellect as evidenced by the blogs on this board.

    Judith you have always been a woman of class, faith and great strength...many look from the outside and don't know your trials...I congratulate you because it is clear you have what it takes to do this job...don't be mad at the people who looking the politics of your appointment and the perceived conflict of interest... It's only reasonable for us to do that in the circumstances...just sorry that you have to suffer through yet another struggle because of your husband.     This lady appears to be a qualified candidate. But what I'm wondering is how the vanterpool family seem to be taking or using the country for themselves - the wife of the premier involved in all things financial, her husband controls the country's purse strings, mark has control of construction monies, and now the minister's wife to ultimately control the college. Anything wrong with this picture???????

      The long and short is she local, capable, and qualified!........ Did I mention capable and qualified?...... Oh yes a very very experienced educator! I was a student that gave her trouble (real trouble) she still got me to pass her classes that I did not like and I have become a person in this society that she can be proud of. All who talking have never interacted with her at all or long enough. Mrs. Vanterpool comes off sometimes as rubbing you the wrong way but never has mal intentions, and always wants the best for the situation. Yes I am writing this and started out failing her Literature and English classes, and this was accomplished without even one parent showing up to school.
      God continue to Bless you Mrs. Vanterpool and all the best in your endeavor.

      For you souls out there you should know out of a lot of people in this world teachers are highly blessed especially those that do it and did it full time. They touched every living soul that has any tiny inkling of an education. Be careful folks.
