ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islanders Ray Victor, Halstead “JR” Chiverton and the Warner University Royals have remained winless since lifting the Tropical Shoot Out in the Virgin Islands over thanksgiving weekend.

The latest defeat came at the hands of local rivals Florida Atlantic University, 83- 50, in a non conference match up at FAU Arena, on Sunday December 9, 2012.

Defense was the theme of the afternoon as the Owls (5-4) held the Royals (6-5) to just 26.7% shooting from the field. That is the lowest field goal percentage of any FAU opponent this season.

The game was close until the midway point of the first half, when FAU went on a 36-9 run over the course of 12 minutes sealed the Royals' fate. At one point during the scoring spree, the Owls scored 11 unanswered points.

Chiverton went 2 of 6 with field goals, 2 of 5 with attempted 3’s and made 1 of 2 from the free throw line for a total of 7 points. He also picked up 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in 15 minutes on court. Victor hit 2 of 8 field goal attempts and 1 of 5 3’s. He was perfect from the free throw line with 4 successful visits and totaled 9 points. He added a block, an assist and 1 steal in 24 minutes playing time.

The Royals also lost their third straight Sun Conference game, losing 86-84 to the visiting Wildcats from Johnson and Wales University last Wednesday.

The Turner Athletic Center was experiencing a ‘Silent Night’ white out, and the crowd came alive as the Royals jumped out to an early lead.  Senior Ian Wilhelm led the Royals with 12 points in the first half, as the Royals shot 46.9% from the field.  However, Warner could not stop the Wildcats from behind the arc, as they drained 8-of-16 from deep.  The Wildcats led 44-41 at halftime.

The Wildcats opened the second half on a 24-9 run, completely taking the Royals' faithful out of the game.  Senior Halstead Chiverton led a Royals' comeback with a monster second half of 16 points, ultimately finishing with a team-high 18 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal, while also draining 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.  Chiverton capped off his night hitting a clutch three with 19.8 seconds remaining, bringing the Royals within two.

Victor finished with 7 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block and 1 steal.

The Royals next Conference opponent is St Thomas University on Jan 9, 2013, but before that they have a few more “friendlies” and a trip to the Crooked Lake Classic in which to put their season back on track.
