Joseph was named Junior Sportsman of the Year by the Caribbean Sports Journalist Association (CASJA).

The Antiguan, who also plays for the Leeward Islands Hurricanes, copped the award ahead of West Indies Under-19 teammate, Shimron Hetmyer of Guyana, and Bahamas’ basketball player Buddy Hield, amongst others, when the Awards ceremony was announced on Friday, two days before his 20th birthday on Sunday.

Joseph, who was part of the successful West Indies Under-19 team in Bangladesh earlier this year, was also joined by the likes of Jamaica’s track & field athletes Akeem Bloomfield and Jaheel Hyde, Cuba’s Lazaro Martinez and Luis Enrique Zayas, both in athletics, and T&T’s Akani Hislop in the race for the Junior Sportsman of the Year category.

He was the lone cricketer in the group.

The fast bowler made his test debut for the West Indies back in August this year against India, while also making his One-day International debut two months later against Pakistan.

Congratulations on his award has come from the Leeward Islands Cricket Board (LICB).

Jamaica’s sprint sensation, Usain Bolt, took the senior Sportsman of the Year award with his female counterpart, Elaine Thompson sprinting to the women’s equivalent.

The Junior Sportswoman of the Year went to Hayley Matthews in cricket Jamaica’s Jaheel Hyde taking away the Rising Star accolade. Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson was the female Rising Star of the year.

The West Indies Under-19 cricket team won the Team of the Year award, while the West Indies women’s team was the female team of the year.

The winners were selected from the final list of 49 nominees which included Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Jamaica St Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago. The nominees represented athletics,   basketball, cricket, football, para-olympics and swimming.
