ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Twenty-nine-year-old Police Constable Joeverne S. Webb is the new Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Queen.

Webb took the crown shortly after 11:00 P.M. at the Road Town Police station grounds out of a field of three contestants, sweeping awards for Best Introduction, Miss Congeniality, Miss Poise, Best Interview, Best Drill, Best Evening Wear, and Miss Intellect.

She will receive an evening wear donated by Unlimited for her participation in a regional pageant, a Movado lady’s watch sponsored by Mr Nice Guy, dinner for two at the Sugar Mill Hotel and a participatory trophy.

Webb will also be the Virgin Islands’ representative in the upcoming regional pageant in 2017 as part of the RVIPF’s golden jubilee celebration as an independent body of the Leeward Island Police Force on February 27, 2017. To mark the golden milestone, the RVIPF will in its Police Week, also happening in February, be engaging in a number of activities inclusive of the Regional Police Pageant.

Moments after her crowning, Webb, told Virgin Islands News Online that the win was for her grandmother who was celebrating her 95th birthday on Sunday October 30, 2016.

“I am very elated, it was a rough journey but it was definitely worth the sacrifice,” she said. “I must say that I came in the show with confidence because when I started the show tonight I said this one is for my grandmother who will celebrate her 95th birthday tomorrow. I came out and put my heart into it because she is the only mother that I knew.”

All about the fun

The first runner-up position went to Acting Chief Inspector Smyrna Y. Brewley, while the second runner-up spot was taken by Police Constable Delma Tavenier Perez.

Each received a participatory trophy, while the first runner-up copped a two nights’ stay at the Bananakeet Hotel and the second runner-up, a gift certificate.

Acting Chief Inspector Brewley, who also walked away with the Miss Photogenic award, said she is proud of herself for braving the crowd and taking part in the event.

“I came in for the fun. I came in about two weeks before the show started so I got off to a late start. I really didn’t expect to come first runner up, I was very nervous, I usually get nervous when I’m speaking in front of people, I am proud of myself,” she remarked.

Meanwhile the second runner-up, and Best Talent awardee, Delma Tavernier Perez said despite her not winning the crown, she had fun.

“I had fun and I think that is the most important thing. I gave my all,” she noted.

The police ladies competed in drills, talent and evening wear segments.

Co-chair of the pageant organising committee, Sergeant Jacqueline Tom-Christopher said police pageants are increasingly becoming popular across the Caribbean as a tool to bridge the gap between the Police forces, while at the same time creating a well-needed diversion to what is largely deemed a stressful profession.

The last Miss RVIPF was held in 1997.

It is not the price of the dress that makes it fit. It is how it is worn. If you feel good and believe in yourself you could reach the stars and beyond.

The transformation of the venue makes the other places look small. Kudos to the Police for showing how to do more with less. Bigup to Smyrna you still the best in my book.
