BIRMINGHAM, UK- The [British] Virgin Islands (VI) has secured a first win at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Experienced squash player Joe Chapman defeated Jules Snagg of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 3 games to none in the Men’s Singles Plate Round of 16 today, Sunday, July 31, 2022.

Chapman, who lost his opening singles match on Friday, July 29, 2022, won his match against Snagg 21-10, 11-4, 11-7 to advance to the Plate Quarterfinals on Monday, August 1 at 12:45pm (7:45am VI time).

Reich concedes to Kenyan opponent

Meanwhile, Luca Reich of the Virgin Islands closed out his Men’s Singles debut at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games today, with a loss of 3-0 to Kenyan player, Muqtadir Sadruddin NIMJI (11-2, 11-2, 11-2).

Luca and teammate Joe Chapman will compete in the Men’s Doubles this coming week.
