NECKER ISLAND, VI- Joan Templeman, the longtime wife of Virgin Islands Belonger and business titan Richard C.N. Branson, has died. She was 80.

The Virgin Records founder and owner of Necker Island and Mosquito Island in the Virgin Islands, revealed Templeman's death in an emotional Instagram post Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

A cause of death was not disclosed.

"Heartbroken to share that Joan, my wife and partner for 50 years, has passed away," Branson, 75, wrote alongside a photo of Templeman. "She was the most wonderful mum and grandmum our kids and grandkids could have ever wished for."

Branson and Templeman met in February 1976 at The Manor, a live-in recording studio built for Virgin Records. The couple married in 1989 and went on to have two children, daughter Holly and son Sam.

The Management and Staff of Virgin Islands News Online extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Joan Templeton.
