Jerome Allen found guilty on arms & ammo charges
Allen was found guilty for the offenses of unlawful importation of explosives, unlawful possession of explosives, unlawful importation of prohibited fire arms and unlawful possession of prohibited fire arms when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards today, November 29, 2013.
The facts of the case was that around 4:30 P.M. on August 11, 2011, the Bomba Charger departed Charlotte Amalie bound for Tortola, and when it arrived around 5:45 P.M. at the Road Town jetty, Allen, who was a passenger, disembarked and proceeded to clear Customs and Immigration.
Subsequently, Customs Officers carried out a routine search of the vessel and a Customs dog indicated to its handler that something suspicious was in one of the bathrooms.
The captain was notified and was present when officers found a large Home Depot box containing an assault rifle, one Glock pistol, 250 live rounds of ammunition for the rifle and 21 live rounds for an AK 47 weapon.
When crew members were questioned, a Davin Thaxter came forward and allegedly stated that an individual [Allen] asked him to hold the box until the vessel was docked to collect it.
Allen has been remanded to prison until December 5, 2013 when he is expected to be sentenced.
