Meanwhile, Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M Rymer (R5) said Mr Hodge is only on vacation; however, our well-placed sources are maintaining there has been a reshuffle.

I can see why he was removed from the post. Projects like Paraquita Bay and Hodges Creek have dragged on for too long. The Sea Cows Bay speed bumps are a bad design because they trap water between the sidewalk and the bump, and our roads are not built with the right slope, so water stays on the surface and ruins asphalt that is not sealed. Even the highway has been dug up and left with rough concrete for weeks. With so many projects open and most being done poorly, I hope Mr. Kurt B. E. Hodge can bring proper engineering standards and faster, better work for the people of this territory.

This rolling VIWood, ie, Hollywood, etc, PUblic Works Director hot seat with mostly unqualified personnel is prejudicial to good governance, depriving BVI residents of efficient and effective public works services. In addition to depriving residents of quality services, it is driving up the cost of what services are delivered. The Public Works Director position is a technical, not an administrative position. It serves as the key technical advisor to the Premier,,other ministers, agencies, bodies, departments., etc. Consequently,,it should be manned by an experienced, knowledgeable, etc., civil engineer or closely related engineering discipline., ie, environmental,,mechanical, transportation,,etc. Putting unqualified person to lead the public works department is doing a disservice to the individual (s), the government, citizens. The BVI should have an embarrassing riches of local qualified personnel to fill the position, if government had effectively trained and educated people. Stop the jokey musical chair….

Both of them are the same. Jeremy Hodge had not vision for his job as Director and Kurt Hodge is equally bad minded and not helpful at all. We are speaking on who is from the BVI we need prepared people to handle these jobs.
The BVI is crying badly for strong leadership.

Decisions and failures have consequences, None bigger than Pariquita Bay Road..The contractor doesn't have a good track record, so why take that risk and now act like we surprised...The way forward for betterment and accountability is to either bring PWD under RDA, or RDA under PWD and Let Mr. Mac Master Run the whole thing..This Minister making a lot of weak moves, he is the one that messing up the country..

Jeremy means well, but his downfall came when he allowed unqualified players like S****, H*****, and N**** to manipulate him into downgrading the staff. These three only ever looked out for themselves—especially S***** and N****. N****, in particular, has no qualifications; all *** does is sit around, wait for the guy from DOIT to visit, then disappear for hours while doing nothing but trying to manipulate the team.

That said, Jeremy, I still wish you all the best in your future.

I would like to lend my support for the minister. Remember he was elected to deliver on what he promised the people of his district and the wider community. Now with that said, he has to have qualified persons to assist him in this process. So when persons are give specific jobs instruction's to do in his department. They need to deliver. If not, They make the minister look very bad.. so with that said if he sees it fit to replace someone from a position to try someone else to deliver on his mandates. why not, he is getting lick when you don’t deliver and when he do e say that’s what we vote for him to do. Get rid of unproductive people. My take..

generally most municipalities prefer an experienced, knowledgeable, registered, etc., civil engineer with municipal governing experience to lead the Public Works Department. The public works director manages large, complex capital projects, ie, transportation (roads, bridges) , water utilities( water, wastewater, drainage), facilities, etc. Further, in a municipal setting, the public works director often serves as the prime technical advisor on capital projects to government personnel and entities. In one instance, the director can be in a ditch and in an another giving a press briefings on a collapsed bridge, flooded roadways, neighborhoods, etc. . In addition to design, construction and maintenance and repair of facilities, structures, and utilities, public works also provides street sweeping, ditch cleaning, tree trimming, light and heavy equipment maintenance and repair, facilities inventory management ( buildings, etc), etc.

Moreover,,in some small locations, the qualifications for the director be a function of size, structure, etc. In such situations the qualifications may be a strong business background, professional management training and education with municipal government experience. Further, in such an organization, the technical expertise may be provided by another staffer, ie., engineering division director. The ultimate responsibility still rests with the Public Works Director.

@. Leonard, it seems as if you are pushing a ‘centralize’ public works function. Well, currently the public works function is a ‘ de-centralize’ shell of what it should be. The work is shared between the department and ministry. Public gets the blame because it has the name. Water and Sewage share a similar problem; it hot /get the blame because it has the name. In regards to public works, some of the things that the minister is doing daily with the press is low down from the apex of the triangle and should be being done by other staff members, ie, public works staff. Routine tasks are usually handled by personnel closer to the base of the triangle, unless they are ‘ less’ and cannot do it. In such a case, actions are needed.
