Jeffers “jaffa” as Mets beat Diamondbacks

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With the bat and ball Shaika Jeffers inspired the Mets to a tense 16-15 victory over the Diamondbacks on Sunday February 12, 2012 as the latest round of matches in the BVI Softball Association Youth leagues concluded.

Intermittent rains did little to dampen the spirits as the ball players took to the Old Recreation Ground field over the weekend.

First up on Friday were the boys.

With the Rays defeating the Orioles 14-12. The Rays had 7 hits, 5 errors and left 5 runners on base. The Orioles had 7 hits, 10 errors and left 2 runners on base. The winning pitcher was DeQuan Leonard and the loser was Shaheem Benjamin. Melvin Knight of Rays was 3-3 with 2 triples, 3 runs scored and 3 runs batted in and Jomari Dagou was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 4 runs batted in. Shamoi Dagou of Orioles was 2-4 with 4 runs scored and Trishaun Jennings was 2-4 with a double, a triple, 2 runs scored and 2 runs batted in.

On Saturday, despite a little confusion with the boys’ game the girls happily took over and the 12 Padres defeated Mets 10-2.

The Padres had 5 hits, 1 error and left 2 runners on base. The Mets had 5 hits, 2 errors and left 6 runners on base. The winning pitcher was Thea Cooke and the loser was Shaika Jeffers. Makeda Fahie of Padres was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and Jheane Niles was 1-2 with 2 runs scored and 2 runs batted in. Shaika Jeffers of Mets was 2-3 with a run scored.

Then came Sunday’s thriller with the Mets holding on to defeat the Diamondbacks 16-15.

The Mets had 12 hits, 5 errors and left 6 runners on base. The D’backs had 9 hits, 3 errors and left 9 runners on base. The winning pitcher was Shaika Jeffers in relief of Chelsea Hodge and the loser was Karen Gonzalez in relief of Shereen George. Shavique Barzey of Mets was 3-3 with 4 runs scored, Aliesha Maduro was 2-4 with a triple, 3 runs scored and a run batted in, Shaika Jeffers was 2-4 with a double and a homerun, 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in and Chelsea Hodge was 1-2 with a homerun, 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in. Karen Gonzalez of Diamondbacks was 3-4 with a home run, 3 runs scored and 3 runs batted in, J'nea Hopkins and Tishema Smith each scored 2 runs and knocked in 2.
