KINGSTON, Jamaica- The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is alerting the public to an ongoing scam involving an individual or individuals impersonating Commissioner of Police Dr Kevin Blake on WhatsApp.

The JCF says the fraudster(s) have been attempting to engage unsuspecting individuals in conversation on the messaging app, and then request urgent assistance in purchasing items for an important cause while insisting on confidentiality.

If attempts are made to call the number, the scammer(s) claims that the commissioner is in a meeting and unable to take the call, the JCF says.

The JCF says neither the Commissioner of Police nor any other member of the constabulary would solicit financial or other assistance in this manner.

“We urge the public to exercise vigilance and be wary of online scams. If you receive such a message or any other suspicious request, do not engage,” it said in a media release.

Instead, report the incident to the police immediately.

The JCF says it is committed to protecting Jamaicans from fraudulent schemes and is urging everyone to remain cautious online.

I’ve heard about this kind of scam happening before, and it’s really unsettling. It’s so easy to get caught up in a conversation and feel pressured to help, especially when they claim it’s urgent and confidential. Reminds me of playing Drift Boss – if you don’t stay focused and cautious, you can quickly end up off-track. Definitely report anything suspicious to the authorities and stay alert online!

I have heard of such fake scams, so I am extremely careful when receiving strange messages, especially via WhatsApp. Luckily, I did not get caught, thanks to which I was able to focus on playing Sprunki Retake without losing my spirit. Anyone who plays music games like me, remember to always be vigilant against online tricks, safety is always the top priority!
