Jah’Kyla Morton strikes High Jump Gold in Costa Rica

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica- The [British] Virgin Islands team has captured three medals on the final day of the NACAC’s U18 & U23 Championships being held at the National Stadium in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The VI’s first Gold medal was won by Jah’Kyla Morton in the U18 Girls' High Jump.

Morton leaped 1.74m (5’-8 1/2”) for a new NACAC U18 Girls High Jump Record as well as a National Record.

Morton’s previous National Record was 1.70m.

Silver for Beyonce

After capturing a Bronze medal in the 100m at the NACAC U23 Championships, Defreitas returned to the track for the 200m.

The now two-time NACAC U23 sprint double medalist ran 23.42 seconds in Heat 2 of the semifinals placing second.

Going into the finals with the third fastest qualifying time, Beyonce ran 23.59 seconds (+0.1mps) placing second.

Javelin Bronze for Kimberly Smith

Meanwhile, Kimberly Smith secured a Bronze medal in the Javelin at the NACAC U23 Championships, tossing the implement 37.53m (123’-1”). 

The Virgin Islands now has four medals at the NACAC U18 & U23 Championships: 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze.
