ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Popular sports figure, veteran softball player and businessman Neville A. Smith aka ‘Sheep’ has resigned as President of the BVI Softball Association effective January 31, 2015.

This is according to a letter obtained by this news site from our many sources within the ruling National Democratic Party regime.

Mr. Smith in a letter dated February 10, 2015 to the Secretary of the Organisation Mrs. Marieta Flax-Headley confirmed his departure as head of the Softball Association.

He also thanked the board members for the opportunities extended to him in his capacity of President.

Not only President but player

Mr. Smith a softball hero not only served at the helm of the Softball Organisation for more than 8 years but played the game for over 30 years and had 12 softball titles the last one being last year with his team Power Outage.

He played softball with the Roots, Pirates and Latinos and travelled extensively with the Virgin Islands National Softball Team representing the country.

It was last year he announced that he was retiring from the active game of softball, but now he has also quit as the President of the Association, removing himself from both the game and the organisers of the sport in the Virgin Islands.

Lack of support from Hon. Walwyn

It was last year that Mr. Smith blasted the controversial sports Minister Honourable Myron V. Walwyn for doing little or nothing for sports in the Territory and softball in general. He said the promised funds from the Minister for the repair of the Old Recreational grounds in Long Bush, on Tortola was not forthcoming and it affected the sport of Softball.

Political run?

It is reported that many voters have also been calling for Mr. Smith who is from the eastern end of the island of Tortola to throw his hat in the political ring. Many residents have gone to him to run either in the Eighth district against the newcomer Honourable Marlon A. Penn (R8) of the National Democratic Party or At-Large.

Mr. Smith who is with the Opposition Virgin Islands Party has been tight lipped on his intentions.

I was wondering myself. Poor grammar all the way through. Not trying to call down anyone but when addressing stuff like that to official persons it should be proofed by someone with the capacity and revised accordingly. Anyway sheep is good people and will do good at whatever he decides to do with himself.

I thought the same...he should've had someone proof read before releasing. The letter began addressing Headley(Secretary) to an anonymous Ms. Henley. The body of the letter is grammatically incorrect also. Neville is a good man, I would suggest he bow gracefully and leave. Rather than stir up dust on the mound, let YOUR record speak for itself. You obviously have a lot of polishing up to do if you wish to enter the realm of politics. Good verbiage is essential.

You mean baseball and running after he hit the ball right? If he can't write a proper letter of resignation how will he represent the BVI locally and abroad?

@rr my question exactly. Neville, I am so disappointed in your writing ability. Did you get a primary school student to construct this letter for you? you have been working at Harneys for as long as I know you and this is how you construct a letter and have the gall of representing us in the 8th district?

I WILL LIKE TO INFORM YOU THAT I FORMALLY TENDERING ------ I WILL LIKE TO THANK. NEVILLE, COME ON MAN, COME ON. SMHWS.

@ooooo Yes, we remember Dancia. I live and vote in the 8th. I voted for Dancia. One of my main reasons was because I thought as a former Attorney General and a woman she would get the job done. What a joke on us all. She did nothing for the district except put some concreat on Hawks Nest road the week before election and plant some flowers out by beef island bridge the morning before election. it was her very own Party that put up Bevis Sylvester to run in th 8th. I went to her street meetings and I went to Bevis' street meeting and you have Andrew, Omar, Ralph, and more on Bevis platform with him and none of them on Dancia's when she out rallying and speaking. The NDP DID NOT DO THIS TO DANCIA HER OWN PARTY DID IT TO HER.

Bwahaha @ Grams - Seriously? you yourself needed to proofread your post before posting. Go rest yourself down somewhere. Yes the letter was indeed written poorly jeez. Took 1 look at it & the first thing that stuck out to me was the name of who it was addressed to (slapping forehead). Then you have single, double & triple spaces throughout the thing, bad grammar. It's called being professional and that letter is far from it

It's obvious that he did not write this letter himself. After all he knows Mrs Headley's name. I wouldn't even comment on the grammar or context of the letter because it does not reflect the way he speaks. He let someone write it for him; but it was up to him to proof-read it before affixing his signature to this rubbish of a letter.
