It’s going to be a rough ride – Hon. Fraser cautions residents

SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands (VI) residents are warned to fasten their seatbelts and prepare for a rough ride on the financial wave because some of the promises made by the National Democratic Party (NDP) Government “cannot be fulfilled”.

This is according to Hon. Julian Fraser RA, 3rd district representative, at his district party held on Saturday January 14, 2012 at Ellis Thomas Downs.

“Some promises were made to you and evidently…obviously you believe in those promises and decide to vote the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) out of Government and brought in a new Government. I am here to tell you this evening ladies and gentlemen, from where I sat for the last four years, the world economy has not changed, as a matter of fact Europe has gotten worse so fasten your seatbelts and prepare yourself for a rough ride,” he stated.

The former Minister for Communications and Works said that since 2009 the world and the VI have been saddled by the economic crisis, adding that his party from 2007-2011 has guided the Territory through some very difficult times.

Commenting on Government’s latest cost cutting measures to increase its reserve fund, which has led to a 50 percent reduction in civil servants’ performance increments and seven percent of operational expenditure in government departments, the 3rd district representative said he was not surprised at the announcement.

“I expected it. I knew it was going to happen because sitting where I sat as a Minister in Government we tried, and we made every effort to keep the public service happy to keep things the way they were. And I knew that this Government as it took office had to make some adjustments,” he disclosed to this news agency.

Asked if the Government’s move was to save face from laying off public servants, the district representative replied, “This is just one step. This is not the end…and while I was in Government and the campaign was going on people on the outside did what opposition do. They talk. People in Government and in places of responsibility don’t make statements such as those and now the reality is stepping in and they are beginning to see what is going on. One time I understood that a statement that was made it was not a worldwide economic problem, well now they are there if it’s a BVI problem why are they cutting back on the increments, why are they cutting back on the expenditure on the Territory. Let us see, promises were made to the people of the BVI and like I just said, fasten your seatbelts and prepare yourself for a rough ride because those promises cannot be fulfilled.”

However, the veteran politician added that he is prepared to work with Government.

Fraser you had knowledge that it was getting worst and worst and you still make the conscious decision to be spending our money stupid, rather than trying to save money in the reserves. IRRESPONSIBLE!!!!! Now you mash up our economy and have the nerve to be using that against the new government. I cant wait to hear your hogwash in 2015

Fraser needs to sit down in the opposition, listen attentively and watch how a government operates. The mockery the VIP made of government over the past fours years will soon be forgotten. He can stand up and speak of the rough ride ahead because he was a part of the problem of wasteful reckless spending. The former Premier had no control over his cabinet and had a bunch of loose cannons parading in the name of government. He couldn't fix the sewage problem now he's saying to the current Minister "good luck". It is not luck that gets solutions it is foresight, diligence, commitment and sound judgment and management. This entails respect for people, good communication, delegation and consultation. Obviously he violated every one of these tenets with his brash, arrogant, self-serving style. Those of you who want to praise him can go right ahead but the record shows that as Minister of Communications precious little was accomplished. The sewage problem in Tortola (bad as it is) is not insurmountable, neither is it out of grasp. There are people who can correct it. I'm not speaking of people what have hefty contracts and produce nothing. I'm not speak of those who continue to milk the country dry then pretend to good stewards. There no problem that the BVI has that cannot be solved. The problem is the kind of government we had that had no interest in solutions. We had people who suffered from everything from delusions of grandeur, myopia, ineptitude and selfishness saying they were running the country. No matter which party you supported anyone with any modicum of commonsense knows that the VIP did not advance this country. We had people speaking a lot and saying nothing and others busy demanding that they be addressed as Honorable. During the elections they embraced the mantra "country above self" but the only problem is, they thought they were the country. Schools in disrepair, deplorable infrastructure, social and moral decay while self-aggrandizement became the preeminent philosophy and way of life. Let us enjoy the welcome change and lend support to good governance. Remember the VIP implored to go "forward ever and backwards never". We heeded their advice and removed them from office all for the betterment of the country as we surely did not want to go backwards.

"in retrospect" you piece of chit, let me give you some retrospect about Fraser and the fixing of sewage in Tortola. 1) He got Biwater to replace the Road Town Pumphouse (FREE) 2) He got Biwater to install 4,000 feet of 12" sewer main pipes in Road Town from the pump station at the round about to the Sewage treatment plant at Burt Point (FREE) 3) He got Biwater to Build a New Sewage Treatment Plant (a first) at Burt Poont Road Town, never before in the history of Tortola (FREE) 4) He got Biwater to replace all the Pump Stations in Road Town from the Round about to the Sewage treatment Plant at Burt Point (FREE) 5) He got Biwater to install 400 feet of effluent pipes from the sewage treatment plant at Burt Point to the existing effluent on Drakes Highway (FREE) 6) He got Biwater to provide and install a new sewage treatment plant at Pariquita Bay for the East End Long Look Sewage (FREE) 7) Fraser hired CBE to work on the Sewage in Road Town, all those contracts that the current minister is talking about for Road Town, were done by Fraser. Ask anyone who will tell you the truth at the Ministry 8) Fraser hired CBE to finish the East End Long Look Sewage collecting system and millions of dollars of work was completed when he left office in November 9) Fraser got the loan from Banco to pay for the CBE sewage works in Road Town, and East End Long Look And after all that, you say Fraser did nothing to solve the problems of Sewage in Tortola? Stupidity and hyprocrecy has no bounds, you sick fool.

@Rediculous How do you know Biwater did not inflate the main contract to cover the "FREE" stuff? Suppose I sell you a car that normally costs $25,000 (including 1 year service), for $26,000 and claim to give you 1 year service for "FREE"? You don't seem to understand how business is done (or have simple common sense for that matter).

What is it about FREE that you don't understand? FREE means FREE, that's the problem with you NDP you can't come to grips with the fact that Fraser negotiated such a darn good deal for the country. You jerks keep coming up with crap about what if this, what if that. If you NDP HATERS believe that the sewage was charged fif, then the government should renegotiate the Agreement and deduct the Sewage and give the water to Ovean Conversion. Bunch of creeps.

@ There we go again Why don't you people learn to use the dictionary and the common sense God gave you? If you represent the typical voter then I understand why the BVI is in the shape it is in now. The only thing that is FREE is what comes with no obligation. If you think that additional stuff from Biwater is FREE, then ask Fraser to tell them he don't want the water any more and he will just take the FREE sewage stuff.

LOL!! One day I'm guyanese, then I'm OJ, now I'm Myron, who will I be next? Stay tuned! LOL LOL LOL!!!!! Fraser, the ride ahead cannot be any rougher than the ione VIP toook us on! Business owners, investors etc. all said openly that they weren't investing a dime in the BVI until the Government changed. Many had their brief cases packed waiting to see the results. When NDP came out on top, they felt better about future prospects. Where is Ralph? Anybody knows? They and the rest took advantage of the man's ailing state. Fraser cared so much about this Territory, he was a part of Cabinet, a sitting Minister and refused to publish the 3yrs of Auditor General reports. Tomorrow we will see the real figures and oh guess what? They will say NDP and Glover park had a conspiracy to doctor the figures blah blah blah LOL!! No accountability. This man nearly run the country down to the ground towards UK takeover and come here talking about rough ride? Schuups!!! Boss go sit down and start drawing again because you won't be a part of the ruling Government again!

Bet if Fraser was the one you would be hearing how it is in he district, how he wasting money, how he arogant, how he won't listen, but Mark do it is ok. Way the money coming from? But it is ok for NDP to give Claude (a looser) a $95,000 employment contract and cut civil servants pay? But it is ok for NDP to give OJ (another looser) a $90,000 employment contract and cut civil servants pay? But it is ok for NDP to give Vance (figure to big for computer) an employment contract and cut civil servants pay? But it is ok for NDP to give The Premier's wife (figure to big for computer) an employment contract and cut civil servants pay? a (figure to big for computer) an employment contract and cut civil servants pay?
