ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – After two exciting and tense Zone Finals, Althea Scatliffe Primary School (ASPS) will face Cedar International today, November 19, 2011, in the Championship Game of the BD Basketball Inter Primary School League.

Kedrick Matthew powered ASPS into the final with a double double of 13 points and 10 rebounds as they beat St Georges 23-12 in the Zone A final.

Although the final margin of victory was 9 points, the game was in the balance deep into the third quarter after St Georges pulled back an 8 – 3 1st quarter scoreline to make it just 10 – 7 to ASPS .

The third quarter was all about defense and ended with ASPS up 13-7, before Matthews went to work boosting his team to a 10 point quarter and restricting St Georges to just five.

Eduardo Vargas did most of the damage for St Georges as he recorded 7 points, 5 rebounds and 8 steals, but only Chaz Fahie with 3 joined him on the score sheet.

Matthew added 6 steals for ASPS and both Malik Jones and Renrick Massac Junior scored 4 points with 3 rebounds.

In the Zone B Final, Cedar International beat Joyce Samuel Primary School 13-10.

The game was a real defensive battle between two evenly matched teams and it wasn’t until with 34 seconds left in the 4th quarter that Frankie Kalama settled the outcome with a two pointer to finish the scoring. Kalama had also scored the points to give Cedar the lead at 10 -8 in the 4th before Rafique Manning leveled the scores with 2 minutes left.

Then as the clock ticked down and the action switched from end to end, free throws were missed, and rebounds picked off by solid defense on both sides before Kalama’s moment of coolness amidst the frenzied finish.

Kalama finished with 4 points and 6 rebounds with Jude Kinkead, Kia Chalwell, Braeden Chalwell and Kia Turnbull all scoring 2.

For Joyce Samuel, Manning scored 4 with 10 rebounds , Malicki Thomas also scored 4 and Shaliqua Fahie 2.

After the Championship Game Final which is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at the Multi Purpose Sports Complex, there will be the All Star Skills Challenge, followed by the “Shoot Out” featuring the league’s top young point scorers.

Then to round off the day’s action, the two teams representing the East and West Zones will take to the court in a showcase match up, hopefully watched by many fans, parents and players.
