EAST END, Tortola, VI- With VG United missing from action for the last three weeks, Islanders FC have taken full advantage to manoeuvre themselves into top spot of the standings by one point with win number six, 4-1 against Panthers FC.

Their latest victory came courtesy of goals from an Antonio Rodney hat trick and a Deshaun Bassaragh strike. Marcus Butler netted for the Panthers.

“Congrats to all the players, a good win for the team,” confirmed coach Fitzroy Daley.

“This is a special win for the club, as the Panthers came out very aggressive, and played some good football, but we were able to tame them and actually played as a team for longer periods in the game. We passed around the ball and although Panthers tried to make it difficult in the end, by keeping to the game plan, we came out victorious,” Daley added.

The undefeated VG United do have two games in hand and will have more than enough confidence to return themselves to the summit.

One Love demolish Positive 7-3

One Love FC bounced back to winning ways with a 7-3 demolition of Positive FC. Shyane Prince netted a brace, and on the scoresheet were Tashan Wallace, Zeron Samuel, Kenroy Palmer, John Samuel and Julian Davidson.

“A good start to the second round for us,” commented Coach Javon Carty. “Hopefully we can use this as a launchpad to reach the top four but will look to improve one game at a time. We dominated for extended periods, especially in the first half, but struggled a bit for fitness in the second.”

Positive’s goals came from Mathurin Rosier who scored twice and Nicardo Dixon.

Rebels beat Sugar Boys

The weekend’s action rounded out with Rebels FC putting up a late onslaught to beat the fading Sugar Boys FC, 4-2. A 2-1 deficit was turned on its head in the last ten minutes by Rebels as Kelvin Glasgow made it 2-2, Malik Kemauri Fenton 3-2 and Curtly Peters scored his second deep into added time to make it 4-2 to Rebels.

All this came after Derol Redhead made it 2-1 to Sugar Boys shortly after the halftime break, following Rebels gifting them the equaliser through an own goal.

Action this weekend

The Islanders play Positive FC this Saturday at Greenland with an 8.30 PM kick-off, whilst on Sunday, March 17, also at Greenland, Lion Heart FC play Rebels FC at 6.15 PM, a game followed by Old Madrid FC against Sugar Boys FC at 8.30 PM.

No one should be playing in VG now. The pitch is not good for football.
