ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Wendol Williams Cup has now reached the Semi-final stage following play on Sunday September 30, 2012 that saw last year’s finalists book their place in the last four.

The Ballstars defeated Old Madrid 4-1 in the day’s first game thanks to goals from Brad Remy, Jhon Samuels (2) and Dressen Leonard.

Leonard set up Remy’s opener with a defense splitting pass before Remy beat the despairing dive from Kendrick Grant and slid the ball home inside the far post. Dressen also set up Samuels for his first goal with a well directed header allowing Samuel to fire home.

Samuel’s second goal put the Ballstars firmly in control of the game as he beat both Grant and Kelvin Subank to the ball to score.

Against the run of play, Old Madrid pulled a goal back before half time when Dion Clarke was allowed to challenge the keeper for a bouncing ball which was fumbled by Maxcell Dabreo in the Ballstars goal. Clarke made no mistake bundling the ball over the line to give his team mates a glimmer of hope.

The Ballstars bossed the second half and had numerous chances to increase their lead whilst rarely troubled in defense. It took a while to arrive but Leonard finally capped his fine performance with a goal from the edge of the penalty box to make it 4-1.

The Islanders made their debut in this year’s competition against the full of confidence Rebels F.C and for 35 minutes the game was fairly even with both sides creating half chances. Then came the game’s defining moment when a long ball from Andy Davis found Francis Primo in acres of space down the Rebels right hand side.

As ‘keeper’ Mervyn Francis rushed off his line to block Primo’s path, the striker delightfully chipped the ball over his head and sent it on its way goal bound. Ateba Creese tried to stop it with his hand, but could only deflect it further into the goal and to make matters worse he was then sent off for deliberate hand ball and the goal was allowed to stand.

Despite the ten men, Rebels survived until the half time break without conceding again. The second half was one way traffic as the Islanders netted 3 more times to make the final score 4-0.

Nano Ottley scored twice, the second of which was a 25-yard free kick which bounced just in front of Francis and flew over his head. Noel Isaacs rounded things off with a back post header from a Fitzroy Daley corner.

The semi-finals are set for Sunday October 7, 2012 starting at 5 P.M. with Islanders vs. Ballstars and at 7 P.M. the Wolues vs. the Sugar Boys. The Finals will be on Sunday October 14, 2012 with the 3rd and 4th place match followed by the Final.

Same comment again ... Ok, diifferent tact with the answer - maybe the "locals" are too busy breaking into police stations, riding scooters, dealing drugs or in prison to worry about the "beautiful game"

LOL....Just keep in mind that locals are still welcome to play the game beside all their issues....thought we know they just prefer doing all the stuff you just mentioned because "THEY ARE BORN HERE"
