ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands News Online has been reliably informed that former At-Large Candidate, Ms Irene F. Penn-O’Neal, has thrown her hat into the ‘political ring’ and will contest in the imminent General Elections—to be held by April 16, 2019.

This publication has been informed that Ms Penn-O’Neal — who ran before — will be nominated from the floor of the Congress, on December 1, 2018; attempts made to reach Ms Penn-O’Neal were not successful up to publication time.

This, as the Virgin Islands (VI) ‘political landscape’ heats up ahead of the upcoming Opposition, Virgin Islands Party’s (VIP) internal election—on Saturday, December 1, 2018—to elect its four At-Large Candidates, to run on the party’s 2019 slate.

Nominations

The party had announced some months ago that, former Permanent Secretary and Businessman, Mr Julian Willock, Businessman and former BVI Softball Association President, Mr Neville A. Smith aka ‘Sheep,’ former 9th District Candidate and Businessman, Mr Elton L. Sprauve aka ‘All Out,' in addition to former Party President, Mr Carvin Malone, had all been nominated.

Others include, BVI Tourist Board Officer and social activist, Ms Shereen D. Flax-Charles, Educator, Businesswoman and former Candidate, Ms Sharie B. de Castro, former Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority, Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline and Businesswomen and Author, Ms Mitsy J. Ellis-Simpson.

Virgin Islands News Online was also informed that, another two persons — besides the former Legislator — are also expected to be nominated 'from the floor.'

The VIP’s Constitution makes provision for any VIP member to be nominated from the floor and the four receiving the highest votes, will join with the party’s District Candidates.

The party is also yet to fill its ‘District Two’ seat, even as party Chairman, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), has promised to have a full slate of 13 Candidates.

Over the past month, the VIP has been calling on the ‘lame duck’ Smith-Administration and the National Democratic Party's (Honourable Myron V. Walwyn's wing) to dissolve the House of Assembly and hold General Elections ‘now.’

    Hon. Fahie, do you want to loose again? Do not endorse this political want-to-be candidate. She has nothing to offer the people of the BVI or the VIP. You must Dump some of the old stuff!!. This is a new era. You will win, but it’s not everyone that wants to join your camp you must say yes too. Remember that you are not desperate—-you are confident for a win. Right now, I am sure that you’ve already made at least three gross errors in your Party’s selection endorsements.

      That is your opinion to which you are rightfully entitled but you do not speak for the entire electorate. Mrs. Penn-O'Neal is guaranteed my vote and those of my immediate family. God's blessings to her if she is selected to contest and to Team VIP.

      Whether it is "All out" or "All in" the person that wants to run at large with the VIP have to convince the congress members so that they can get their vote. It is not up to Fahie. He is a true leader because he put the power to select the at large candidates in the people's hands. So tell them who want to run go do their work and don't even think of blaming Hon. Andrew A. Fahie.
