ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The possible cause of the fire that destroyed Hazem's Shoe Store on Waterfront Drive, Road Town in the early morning hours of September 6, 2016 is still not known and the investigative report is still not ready.

The fire, which Virgin Islands News Online first reported on, reportedly started sometime around 2:00 A.M.

Persons reportedly heard explosions which Chief Fire Officer Zebalon A. McLean described as "concussion blasts"

“A loud explosion was heard and then the flames were seen and it’s obvious that the flames had been present for a while. It was not something that was caused there and then because we took less than a minute to get from the headquarters to the scene, less than 60 seconds, and when we got there the flames were very high and that means it had to have been burning for a while,” Mr McLean had previously told this news site.

The fire was contained to just the shoe store. There was also some scorching of Bolo's Printery located just above Hazem's.

Meanwhile, Mr McLean told Virgin Islands News Online today, September 12, 2016 that the report is not yet ready.

A joint investigation was carried out by the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Services’ investigative team and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

The estimated loss as a result of the fire is not immediately known as owner of the shoe store, Mr Hazem M. Bazar, who has been in business on Tortola for more than twenty years, could not be reached for comment up to time of publication.

Hazem’s Shoe Store was upgraded some tree years ago.

So that's public info? That's not for the authorities to find out and know and deal with according?

It's strange how a store just refurbished brand new caught on fire.

Newly refurbished may also mean new wiring. If not done correctly, even just one bad connection can start a fire.

From the looks of it the fire seems to start from upstairs, unless the roof above the store is wood instead of concrete, and the fire creep its way to the above roof as seen in the photos.

I really don't expect an accurate report in a reasonable time period, unless they bring in experts in fire detection to examine the building and ashes and any tangible evidence that can be recovered. With all the suspicious fires that have happened in this place, no one was ever charged or brought to justice. This is not going to be any different.
