ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A system known as Invest 95L is being forecast to develop into a tropical depression that could affect the Virgin Islands and other countries of the Leeward Islands in a few days time, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) has stated.

In a Facebook post today, September 17, 2021, DDM, in an update on Invest 95L, said showers and thunderstorms remain disorganised in association with a tropical wave and broad area of low pressure located about midway between the Lesser Antilles and the Cabo Verde Islands.

However, it said environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for development during the next few days, and a tropical depression is still likely to form over the weekend or early next week while moving toward the west-northwest at 15 to 20 mph across the central tropical Atlantic and then near or north of the Leeward Islands by Monday and Tuesday.

"Interests in the Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of this system during the next few days," DDM stated.

Invest is a term given to systems that are likely to develop into a tropical depression (or worse). Educate yourself and don't be such a moomoo. Here is the explanation for a term that has been used for many years. It is sad that ignorant people like you have a voice.
      --
On weather.com and The Weather Channel you may hear us use the term "Invest" (short for Investigation) followed by the numbers 90 through 99 and either the letter "L" for the Atlantic basin systems or "E" for the eastern Pacific systems.

These full labels in the Atlantic would be displayed as Invest 90L, Invest 91L, etc. In the eastern Pacific, you would see Invest 90E, Invest 91E, etc.

This naming convention is used by the National Hurricane Center to identify features they are monitoring for potential future development into a tropical depression or a tropical storm.
