TRELLIS BAY, Beef Island, VI- interCaribbean Airways will mark a decade of continuous service to the Virgin Islands (VI).

The airline launched operations to the T.B. Lettsome International Airport on December 9, 2015 and has maintained “consistent service through economic challenges, natural disasters, and industry shifts”, the interCaribbean said in a press release leading up to the anniversary.

Ten years of continuous service to the VI is a sign of the airline’s unwavering commitment to connecting the Virgin Islands with the wider Caribbean region.

Lyndon Gardiner, Chairman of interCaribbean Airways, said, “Ten years ago, we made a commitment to the British Virgin Islands and its people - a commitment we've honoured every day since.”

He added that while the industry landscape continues to evolve and other carriers have exited, interCaribbean’s position is clear.

“We’re here to stay. For almost 34 years, interCaribbean Airways has built our reputation on dedication to Caribbean connectivity, and the BVI is an important part of that  mission."

A steadfast partner

interCaribbean said this milestone comes at a significant moment for VI connectivity, as Caribbean Airlines recently announced its decision to suspend its route to the VI effective January 2026.

The airline said it stands as a “steadfast partner” with the VI in ensuring connectivity to essential markets throughout the region.

The release added that over the past decade, interCaribbean Airways has carried hundreds of thousands of customers between the VI and destinations including Antigua, Dominica, San Juan, Santo Domingo and Sint Maarten, and points beyond.

The airline also weathered significant challenges alongside the Territory, including the devastating impact of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, and remained committed to the market when others withdrew.

Tortola is an important destination

“Tortola (EIS), in The British Virgin Islands, is an important part of our Caribbean destinations as we continue to build further on this decade-long relationship”, said Trevor Sadler, CEO of interCaribbean Airways.

The airline’s customers, he said, seek interCaribbean Airways’ services for connectivity to Tortola and well beyond, whether for a business meeting in San Juan, a family visit to Antigua, or a weekend getaway.

VI-based Cacique Rewards members will receive a special gift as part of the ten-year recognition.
