NEW DELHI, India- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) is leading a 12-member delegation to India for the first-ever Virgin Islands (VI)-India Trade Mission from August 24 to 31, 2026.

The Caribbean is no stranger to India

Work has been ongoing behind the scenes for about three years to get to this point where the trade mission is happening.

Before leaving the VI, Premier Wheatley explained that India has the biggest population in the world and is home to multi-million and billion dollar tech companies. In addition, India, he said, is full of heritage and one of the oldest civilisations in the world.

“The Caribbean is no stranger to India; we have many persons of Indian descent in the Caribbean, and they’ve introduced Indian culture to the Caribbean. So, it’s quite natural for us to want to establish a stronger relationship with India as one of the BRICS countries, as one of the up-and-coming countries in the world as it pertains to transitioning from a developing country to a serious world power.”

The Indian gov’t offered us quite a bit

The primary objective of the trade mission, he said, is for the Financial Services Industry.

“We do very good business in China, Hong Kong, ecetera, but we believe we could strengthen our presence in India. So, the financial services is key.”

Premier Wheatley said, however, the mission goes beyond the financial services industry.

“It’s an opportunity to make friends formally with the Indian government, and we’ve already had engagement with one of their ambassadors right here in the Caribbean, based in Jamaica, and we had a wonderful exchange, and the Indian government has offered us quite a bit that we need to take advantage of.”

The Premier did not, however, expound on what was offered by the Indian government.

The VI delegation will visit four Indian cities- New Delhi, GIFT City, Mumbai and Bengaluru- and engage with hundreds of C-suite executives, investors, financial institutions, fund managers, family offices, fintech companies, legal advisers and other senior decision-makers from across India’s financial services community. The mission will also attend the Money Expo India.

Majority of those people listed as part of the delegation have nothing to add but they get a free trip on the taxpayer's back. If RS was not included he would be the first on FB with a long tyrade about why it is a waste of money but he gets a free trip across the globe 1st Class so he is quiet. BVI is really turning into a proper shit hole country!

There are 12 including the premier traveling to India I am sure flying first class, and staying in 5 stars hotel and the premier can't or won't tell us the people who employ him what he has been offered by the government of India. He also said he had a good exchange with an Indian official based in Jamaica, but can't or won't tell the public what was the wonderful exchange. What a loser for a leader. One thing I know is he is not winning in Long Look this election cycle. Natalio does not have the best interest of the people in his focus. I don't know what have him distracted but his focus is not on the job so his performance is very poor. My fellow BvIslanders I am begging you to let us join our efforts to oust this useless government. Some of us is his family but let us put sentiments on the back burner and rescue our future and the futures of our children and grand children out of the hands of Natalio and his regime. We can do it and we must.

"...and the Indian government has offered us quite a bit that we need to take advantage of.” Such as? What exactly has been offered? This word salad is neither useful or inclusive.

Righteousness exults a nation, but sin (ungodly behaviors) is a reproach to any people. Education, scientific, medical, economic, political scremes, social, etc, not even countless trips abroad is the answer to the many human manufacturers problems, that we are face with daily because according to the holy scriptures .... only the God of righteousness guarantees undivided prosperity for mankind, not human political leaders ideologies. The up and coming trip to India is nothing more than a political distraction and waist of more out our funds. We demand accountability for $Ms, not empty promises that continue mising the mark of prosperity for all the people of the British Virgin Islands, Premier, Natalio Sajuande Wheatley.

India isn't the real problem; the real problem is this current government taking us down a slippery slope real fast. The damage that can be done between now and election is significant. An election needs to call now now. If they get back in then so be it
