ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Radio commentator Douglas Wheatley said that it is important that new Governor of the Virgin Islands His Excellency Mr John S. Duncan OBE makes a decision quickly on launching a Commission of Inquiry (COI) into the cruise pier project.

He was speaking last night August 19, 2014 on his radio programme ‘Speak Out BVI’ heard on ZBVI 780AM.

“It is important that a decision is made because we don’t want the country to be in limbo whether or not it is a Commission of Inquiry or some other form of investigation that will take place to dispel some of the views that are out there on the issues and so forth,” he said.

“So I think it is important that whatever action will be taken is taken so that we can move on and get that behind us as soon as possible so I appreciate what the Governor said,” said Wheatley.

It was revealed in some sections of the media that Governor Duncan said that he will be making a decision on the COI before the end of the year.

Two damning reports, one from the Auditor General and another from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the House of Assembly raised concerns among many stakeholders and prompted the call for a COI to get to the bottom of the issues. Among the multiple findings of both reports were usurping of authority, conflict of interest, and questionable payments and tendering procedures.
