Immigration Officer charged in relation to human smuggling investigation

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) have charged an immigration officer in connection with investigations into human smuggling.

Naima Grante, 35, of Old Plantation was charged with three counts of breach of trust in a public office.

The immigration officer remains in police custody, while three men, native to the Dominican Republic, are being detained by Immigration in relation to this investigation.

Ongoing investigations

According to the RVIPF in a press release today, April 18, 2023, the charges resulted from ongoing joint investigations by the RVIPF, the Department of Immigration, and His Majesty’s Customs.

Commissioner of Police Mark Collins applauded the ongoing efforts of all the officers that are part of this important investigation and commended the cross-agency cooperation which aided in this result.

Persons who have witnessed or have knowledge of any suspicious activity that can help in inquiries into human smuggling through the Territory are encouraged to call the anonymous Crime Tips line 800-8477.

    I think immigration and customs need a clean up bad get rid of them bad apples and put in good people. One thing government need to do pay them staff good that's the problem why all of this mess.you think you can go in the Caribbean or in usa and get them kind of money for customs and immigration no way. I hope whoever government get in and change all of this mess fast.
